Ours did this so we cleaned the track/rails and bearings. We took the covers off and scraped off gunk, then used alcohol and wiped some oil on the rails and dropped a bit on the bearings. Ran like new again.

I think it can be done by typing something close like franklin condensed and using a special effect. In illustrator you might add anchor points then mess with some of the options under effects, distort and transform, pucker and bloat. MAYBE... worth a try.
