  1. Large format print resolution

You're right, that was a major snafu on their part wasn't it? Thanks for pointing that out...
  2. Large format print resolution

I found this on the internet and it might be of some use: FONTS Transport Graphics requires that all digital files have fonts converted to paths or outlines. If this is not possible, we have a vast library of fonts and we will attempt to find an adequate substitute for missing fonts but an...
  3. Anybody deliberately buy 2 different brand / model printers?

I get the same feeling when I talk to HP sales reps, especially the ones I met at SGIA a few years back. As far as the comment about learning multiple RIPs, with Caldera, that shouldn't be a problem. I'm seriously considering a Seiko ColorPainter W-64s. The local sales rep is very knowledgeable...
  4. HP L26500 color shift within same job.

I visited a print shop the other week and he likes his L26500 but doesn't love it. The main issue he has is that when printing large jobs (like a 53' trailer) the last panel on the trailer looks like it has a bit of color shift from the 1st one. Is this a common issue with HP latex printers?
  5. Anybody deliberately buy 2 different brand / model printers?

Quality is a must in the application I am looking at. I guess we might be interested in the benefits of latex when it comes to drying time. I talked to a HP latex user a couple weeks ago and he said that his HP has a hard time holding consistent color which concerns me quite a bit.
  6. Anybody deliberately buy 2 different brand / model printers?

Since some printers are better in regards to certain applications and others excel in different areas, how common is it to deliberately buy 2 different brand / model printers to satisfy multiple needs? For example, having a latex printer work beside a solvent printer.
  7. Seiko ColorPainter reseller

I found out that Tubelite out of Charlotte sells Seiko. You'd think the Seiko website would list them.
  8. Seiko ColorPainter reseller

Who in the Southeast (specifically North Carolina) distributes Seiko wide format printers? Thanks!
  9. I know there's no perfect printer, but help me get close...

Interesting... Feel free to PM me on the comment highlighted in red. I talked to Jim from Red Eye yesterday and he was very helpful. He didn't have anything negative to say about the HP latex printers, so that is promising. The bottom line is that if this project comes to fruition, I will have a...
  10. I know there's no perfect printer, but help me get close...

The shop is in the Charlotte area and if this deal takes place, I will be relocating. You're right about spot color consistency, that will be a must. I wonder why Motorsports Designs doesn't like HP latex printers?
  11. I know there's no perfect printer, but help me get close...

How does it do running "lights-out"?
  12. I know there's no perfect printer, but help me get close...

Any concerns with print speed on the HP latex? Been reading that they are pretty slow.
  13. I know there's no perfect printer, but help me get close...

This is VERY useful information, thanks to all who provided input. I've met with Nick at RCR and they have an impressive shop. I talked to people at The Decal Source and they use HP latex and love it. I also found out the Red Eye Designs who does the car wraps for Hendrick Motorsports also uses...
  14. I know there's no perfect printer, but help me get close...

Here's the situation. I have been approached by a large race team to start their own in-house print shop. I currently work with a Durst printer and Caldera RIP. Having a Durst do the printing is out of their budget so it will be up to me to decide which brand wide format printer will be the best...
  15. Suggestions for starting a Roland print shop with Caldera rather than VersaWorks.

I might have a solution. TyrrellTech, Inc. sells both Roland and Caldera. Done and done!
  16. Suggestions for starting a Roland print shop with Caldera rather than VersaWorks.

We are open to other printer options. It would be nice if we didn't have to run 220V for the HP printers. We are also looking at Epson, Mimaki, and Seiko. Roland is at the top of our list due to their local support and popularity. We also would like the ability to print metallic inks.
  17. Suggestions for starting a Roland print shop with Caldera rather than VersaWorks.

The $250k is for equipment which will include a couple workstations, a RIP, two (maybe 3 XR-640 printers) and a Seal 62 Pro laminator. The office / work space already exists, so there will be no additional cost involved with that. The final product will be vehicle wraps printed on 3M controltac...
  18. Suggestions for starting a Roland print shop with Caldera rather than VersaWorks.

Filling in the support gap is the main problem I will be faced with. Having to justify the expense shouldn't be an issue since they have $250k allocated to the future print shop. I am concerned about the following scenario: The Roland dealer sets up the printers / cutters and when it comes time...
  19. Suggestions for starting a Roland print shop with Caldera rather than VersaWorks.

I currently run a print shop for a large company and we have a Durst RHO 800 HS. The Durst came with Caldera and I love it. I have been presented with an opportunity to manage a print shop for another company and it will be up to me to decide what equipment to buy. (They are starting from the...
