  1. 3m controltac choices

I was hoping we could use IJ175 on an upcoming remote project to rebrand a bunch of coaches and vehicles due to lower initial tack and slideability - Did some testing in-house and found it behaved worse than IJ180cv3 in terms of scarring and handling. Also awful for smaller shape cut decals due...
  2. How to trim down a 33-foot-long banner?

^Very much this, given everything that's been revealed. Shops that print banners have big enough work benches and/or finishing equipment do to just that. What kind of shop are you working in that has a six figure flatbed but no work benches or finishing equipment? What do you do with prints...
  3. How to trim down a 33-foot-long banner?

You're not going to find 24" banner media. 36-39" is pretty much the smallest standard width. Print as many up as you can fit on the stock that you have, roll them out on a work bench, and trim them down with a straightedge and knife. Assuming you have work benches.... why would these prints...
  4. reflective qr codes

I was wondering when someone would address the green elephant in the room....
  5. Week of morons

I find this more and more common. I've started numbering my questions/points in hopes that they'll actually read/acknowledge a majority of them. 70% of the time, it works every time.
  6. PLEASE CALL SECURITY - looking for reflective blue

What kind of printer/RIP are you using?
  7. Need Help Getting a new printer

Agreed, very easy/user friendly printers. Our "training" for our S60600 was about 20 minutes....... at first I was a bit disappointed then quickly realized how easy it was to operate and maintain. We ran Rolands for 10+ years so had experience operating printers. That said, seeing as...
  8. Sticker Lamination on UV Prints. needed or not?

We like 3M 8418G. Super thin and conformable and will generally cover thicker UV ink nicely with a touch of heat on the laminator. We also use Avery DOL 2080 matte which is thicker/calendared, and will sometimes leave a bit of silvering around raised/printed areas but have never had a...
  9. Need Help Mounting help w/ PVC panels

We've got a project coming up soon w/ a bunch of PVC panels throughout a higher end office. This portion will be up on a bulkhead and will essentially have (4) panels @ approximately 34" x 34". (mockup attached) I'll be using 12mm PVC for these. For some of the smaller (not overhead) panels...
  10. What are your thoughts on the S80600?

Spend 2-3k on an X-rite i1, get Onyx Thrive or similar, and go to town. I'd ask the dealer that is installing the Epson if they sell profiling equipment and training. We went this route when we added a printer years ago and it was worth the investment. Having someone hold your hand to build...
  11. Product recommendation for digital vinyl and window lettering

We used to use a ton of 2923 EZ, then realized it shrinks A LOT over time, especially if you add a calendared laminate. How long have you been using this combo? Haven't had any failures yet? For vehicles we strictly use 3M IJ180cv3 + 3M 8418G. We'd probably use the same for windows.
  12. Sticker Lamination on UV Prints. needed or not?

Depends what it is, but yes we do laminate some of our prints off our UCJV. Cast laminates w/ heat assist is best.
  13. PLEASE CALL SECURITY - looking for reflective blue

Agreed. Printing them all together would probably be the simplest. There appears to be some different colored details on the trident so printing would help w/ that too, otherwise you're trying to match 4 reflective colors. That stripe looks drunk, sure is an odd shape. (Not what you're...
  14. Best practice for cut vinyl ACM sign

We would print on GF 201 HTAP + 3M 8418G laminate and call it a day. Like Tex said, I wouldn't trust any of the painted/colored ACM sheets. Years ago we did some signs for a nail salon (first and last time) and they wanted to use yellow ACM. Those signs are now pretty much white and the...
  15. Laminating

Are your prints that tacky that bare hands will leave fingerprints.....?
  16. Question Looking for Inexpensive Outsource Design Service

Welcome to Signs 101. What kind of sign design do you need to outsource?
  17. Installation Over Water

Yeesh. That was exhausting to watch. That guy is way too intense, looks like he's gonna pop a blood vessel.
  18. Bid package nightmare

Sounds pretty common for larger bids. We had something similar for a large local event last year, I respectfully declined. Asking for compensation to fill out their paperwork won't land you the job. Figure out if it's worth the effort. If you can make money on the job while being...
  19. Helping Competition/colleagues?

Same here. We work with a few other shops and I'm more than happy to do wholesale work for them if their printers are down or if it's something they can't do in-house.
  20. EPSON V7000 UV ink adhesion problem on Plexiglas/PMMA/PERSPEX

Are you pre-cutting pieces then printing, or vice-versa?
