the last one we did we sort of did a little of both. we didn't install all the way into the crease, but we left the vinyl a little loose so when we did bridge it (primered first of course) it really didn't stretch too far. see it around town all the time and it's holding up great.

you could laminate the mylar first, and then run it through the solvent printer. it would eliminate any distortion or the possibility of ruining a finished print if something naughty should happen while laminating.

i ran across an add on craigslist where some lady was charging $30 to $150 to peel off vinyl, solely because she enjoyed it and found it relaxing. you need to find someone local like that.

if you can adapt the design to utilize a double print profile for the digital print and lay down a really nice opaque black, then you should have no problem with laminating it with a matte lamination and achieving the matte appearance. Personally though, you should entertain the idea of gloss...

i'd clean the surface with a wax remover/degreaser instead of just rapid tack. that should be yours first step. water/soap if really dirty then wax remover then alcohol or rapid tac
