+1 for the Vector Dr. The first thing I usually do upon opening a file in Illustrator is view it in outline mode. I find a lot of junk (clipping mask, stray points, and unused space in text boxes to name a few) that can be trashed and have no ill effect on the final product.

This is how I do it. When I first got mine I also had trouble with it popping the vinyl and causing tracking issues. Started draping the vinyl and have had much better success at straight tracking.
