I just wonder why you have treat that surface with flame/heat?? It's a total PITA to have to do that when most every other surface you recieve from suppliers is RTA. Is it something in the process or molding of the plastics?
I can rememeber the first time I tried to apply to one of those...
you can sometimes open AIs in Onyx but generally you won't get good results. Something to do with the way it reads the data. I'm not exactly sure what the specifics are.
The printer is inconsequential. It's a matter of your rip program.
Of course that could be a possibility. It seems unlikely since vinyl is applied to surfaces attacked by harsh winters all the time. I wonder if the surface wasn't cleaned high enough. What sort of material is being hauled by the tanker. is it a top loaded tanker - does it get filled from a top...
We found that if you can't print white then you can print reverse on clear static then "laminate it" with white calandered vinyl so you have a white back. Doesn't do much for keeping price down but it works. Allows for interior application because the static material is still directly on the...
How bad is the existing paint on the hood? if its all bubbly and actively chipping he's better off not wrapping it.
Tell him to go the junk yard and buy a hood for his car, one that isn't chipping and then you can wrap that.
I generally tell our customers that when I'm doing any sort of vehicle work, wraps, lettering, whatever - to have it prewashed to get an all over clean. I also make sure that I tell them NOT TO WAX it. Because the vinyl doesn't stick to it. After this is done and they drop the vehilce off I will...
Gotta love that we love our tools. Our spouses and significant others just don't understand why we love them (our tools) soo.
Like any sign geek, I get all excited about new tools and tricks. So I feel ya GG on the excitiment about being able to use the torch. Just don't hurt yourself with...
Gotta have the torch. Heat guns work to slowly...you get a much quicker burst, and once you're comfortable with it, I think, a more controlled heat sorce with the torch. I'll only use a heat gun for post heating.
Just to be safe call the supplier. They shouldn't be selling a roll thats dated 3 years old. It's one thing to have a roll you ordered be sitting there in your shop for 3 or more years. It's another for the supplier to have that roll sitting on THIER shelf for 3 or more years. i wouldn't use it...
get used to printing the minimum amount of overlap that you feel comfortable with. That way you minimize the chance or necessity of having to cut them.
JC1 has a good process but it's not very vinyl efficient. It puts a out a nicer final product but uses more vinyl I'm sure, but some...
+1
Colors are great. Design is nice, but the boxes getting cut off by the diamond plate is a bummer to the overall final product. I guess it's like beating a dead horse at this point. But for the next one - accurate pre measurements will avoid future eye sores. But other then that it looks great.
Are you planning on continuing to outsource the installations of your future wraps? If you plan on outsourcing ask your installer what they prefer. After all they are the ones that are going to have to work with it.
If you plan on taking on the adventure of wrapping yourself. I would try...
