Stealth, how did you manage to pull the pipe assembly apart?

I've really tried hard to take them apart but they just wont seperate, I used considerable force anymore and I would have ripped them! How? Do I just pour it down the spit tray? Also I can't order anything at the moment as there is a major postage problem in the UK and I need to get this...
