  7. First lighted sign in ....25 yrs, question

So, I am doing a back lighted sign over for a friend. The top portion is black with white letters. The old sign had a flat black vinyl on it. I don't have any flat black. Is there any reason not to use gloss black? He is a good friend so if flat would work for better for some reason I'll get it.
  8. Banner for a parade... how to do?

+1 20-30 feet is HUGE!!:omg: Either the lettering will be so big you could read it from the next county or there will be so much copy no one will read it all. A 10 -12 foot banner should be plenty big enough.
  9. Letter Sizes

Thanks, this will get me in the ball park.
  10. Letter Sizes

I am doing a menu board for a new detailing shop. the customer is on a limited budget (as usual) and wants a "small" menu board for the customers to read. What is the smallest letters I could use and be lagable at a distance of 8' - '10? My size chart starts at 3" letters- 100'
  11. What is the goofiest thing a customer has said to/requested of you?

I had an older Italian customer that had an excavatoin company. (not bashing Italians here, my wife is Italian so I can say this! LOL) This was one of my best customers and a very nice and generous person. when I first met him he wanted a tow behind compressor lettered and one of the things he...
  12. Just because you're an Artist doesn't mean you're a Sign Maker

This has been one of the biggest problems for sign makers... I ALWAYS cringe when I hear the dreaded "Oh, my (fill in the blank) is an artist and he,she is designing a sign for you to make for me. NNOOOOOO! and then they want it for less because you don't have to design it!!:banghead:
  13. Long jobs and no take-up

I have a 5' piece of plywood with an eyelet in the center. I strap the plywood to the frame under the printer thru the eyelet and make a ramp for the vinyl to slide down. I can print about 6 to 8 feet without it folding. you also need to add a dry time if your going to do a countour cut. You do...
  14. How do I hold a contour cut overnight?

  15. How do I hold a contour cut overnight?

I was told that if I want to print out to the edge of a contour cut that it has to dry overnight and then be laminated. This will prevent the edges from curling. How can I hold the contour cut overnight?
  16. Can I print to the edge of vinyl

I am doing a job that I don't want to see a white outline around the print. In my past experience when I print to the edge of the contour cut, the vinyl wants to curl up as it dries. Is there any way to stop this? I am using an SP300 with standard solvent inks on Orical 3651 vinyl. Should I...
  17. buy it before its gone?

I do trucks, boats, banners and small signs, usually not larger than 4x8's. I have been having fun with the CS2 so I think it would be worth while to get it. Here is my other question, what it the difference between Photo Shop and Illistrator ? They are both close in price so I want to get the...
  18. buy it before its gone?

I am new to using adobe ( a friend is letting me use his when needed) and have just found out that they won't be selling hard copys any more. I definatly don't use it enough to pay a monthly fee. I think that I can still get cs5 or 6 but I don't know witch version I would need. I don't think...
  19. Grommet Machine Question

I have the Hiker from fellers with an adjustable die. I only use it occasionaly but it was worth the money, I can go from 6mm corr. plastic (without crushing it), to a single layer of banner material with a simple adjustment. You get what you pay for , even with grommet machines.
  20. CS2 download?

From what I understand it is not free for everyone. ONLY people who have leagally purchased the software previously can get it free. This is a service to their customers that have crashes or change computers ect. I'm guessing that NOBODY gives their software away, even if it is out of date and...
