Let's see, what can be done with a brush that can't be done digitally...
For one, a nice wall job. Not a sign anchored to a wall. Lettering on the wall.
Assume we both take an equal wall lettering job across the street from each other. We both arrive at work at the...
I haven't refused anything yet, but I don't consider it censoring if I would refuse to print/paint a message that is promoting something of which I don't wish to play a part in promoting. That's not censoring. I don't have the power to do that. Nor do I feel I'm qualified or authorized to...
Dave Drane, thank you for your kind words.
Just to clairfy, that black and white I posted is not a trace. It is merely the result of using the threshold adjustment. Just takes a few seconds. It is a work file I would use to start a trace.
I'm having trouble viewing the attachments properly.
In one I see an extremely cool looking little engine with a prop laying beside it. But in the other three all is see is two nuts messing with what looks like an airplane made out of coroplast. Surely this can't be real.
Seriously...
I work better alone too. Been working that way for 25 years. I don't usually know what to have a helper do so often they just give me a third hand here and there. Most of the time I use masking tape for that. Hard to justify paying a guy to emulate a piece of masking tape.
Never...
I think you're right about the tweak this, change that sort of opinions. It's tough to go over it from that viewpoint. It's not a bad job so long as the customer likes it. After all, the customer is likely more familiar than any of us with the real person.
Something I would suggest for this or...
That's a good idea Joe. I also wade through a ton of crap fonts I know I'll never use on a sign. Seems almost every time I see them I think about doing what you just did. But as much as I don't like to procrastinate either I still haven't done it.
Maybe tomorrow. Or the next day. Or...
I haven't lettered or striped much of anything over the past 10 years. I agree that the fulfillment one gets from hand lettering just isn't there when knocking out vinyl signs.
Four years ago when I started working at my current job the owner took me around to meet some of our vendors. Upon...
First I heard this. Dang. One of my favorites.
I heard it once said that he had a true American accent. After that I listened more closely to him and I know what they mean by American accent.
As you said Rex, a real actor. He was good in every role he played.
He will be missed.
R.I.P.
Great film. Thank you for sharing this. I didn't know this work was even done this way anymore. I guess like the one painter said, "Blue and yellow make green, but we paint green so it can be richer." Printing will never totally take the place of hand work but my guess is that like many other...
On a hand painted job using a pounce pattern for a 2-sided directional sign with an arrow, after finishing one side I flipped the board applied the same pattern to the other side and lettered it.
Mine didn't turn out upside down, but now I had arrows pointing in opposite directions!
I didn't realize you were looking for vinyl to match an odd PMS color. Doubt you're going to find that. I have heard some manufacturers will custom make a vinyl color but I'd think unless you need an awful lot of it it wouldn't be worth it.
Get samples from every vinyl manufacturers you can...
Dang! 3/4" plate glass?!
We have 1/4" plate on our two 4'x8' tables, (on rollers, arranged end to end), and we love it. It makes for a perfect masking/cutting surface using #11 x-acto blades. After nearly 3 years there's only a few light scratches due to people using dull blades but other than...
Thanks! I'll study this.
I started out before computers so everything I did was hand lettered. I never called them fonts. To me they were "letter styles". Although I did try to copy some of my favorites, many times I'd just make up my own attempting to come up with something that looked...
Here's one in .pdf format. http://www.ramayes.com/Data%20Files/Misc/pantonechart.pdf
Choose the material you need to print on. Print this on that material. What you get may not be a perfect match to the PMS color you're looking for, but it will let you know exactly what color will print, on...
I agree with Gino. Have pretty much always done it that way. Design for the large driver's side and scale down for the other sizes. I wouldn't even give the customer another option unless he brought it up.
Why do a different layout just because the size is different?
Likewise, why force the...
