  1. ONYX 11 Hardware Decision

As much of a Mac 'fanboy' that I am; I would steer clear of dual-booting your mac. It will be a lot easier and faster if you just use a dedicated PC. Here are a few basic things I would suggest: • Intel i7 Processor • 12+ GB RAM (Make sure you buy a computer that has a motherboard that is...
  2. Mac cutter software, need advise

CutMaster or Finecut I've have used both: 1.) Illustrator w/ Cutmaster plugin to cut directly from Illustrator (Graphtec FC7000 plotter) and now 2.) Illustrator w/ FineCut plugin to cut directly from Illustrator as well (Mimaki CG-130FX) CutMaster is free by the way - Go Team
  3. I need opinions on substrate again

I would use dibond or maxmetal I would use dibond or maxmetal (grimco's cheap version).
  4. Arizona doesn't play around

Sounds like racial profiling to me. Something tells me by "Permit" they actually meant "Proof of citizenship". Taking into account that it is Arizona, theirs at least a 50% chance they were just racially profiling. That's insane that he'd get pinched for not having a permit. Glad your tax...
  5. new most amazing font!! DESIRE

More amazing font I think you overlooked this font in your rankings for best font.
  6. bad customer supplied files

Access granted. :thumb: And think, I'm actually having a pretty good day. Just need to change customer art files for like 5 of 10 kiosks that I printed and installed already. Apparently it takes the road-crew for the marketing program to decide they want different artwork. (the day before...
  7. bad customer supplied files

Hopeless customer files I went from working at a sign shop to working at a custom fabrication shop where I setup & print files from GLOBAL Marketing firms. I've been to these firms and seen rooms with 50-100 guys all working on their duel-screen Mac Pro's designing and setting up artwork...
  8. Large Decal on side of van, best method?

White text on a white van? Don't typically like to critique, but white text on a white van doesn't seem like the smartest move to me.
  9. Snowboard deck

Well played sir, well played.... :) Spoken like a true local. I guess when you have 'step-ins' you don't need a stomp pad. :) Seriously though, - If regular 180c Control Tac has any problems due to the bending of the board, I would use IJ-380 Control tac.
  10. Snowboard deck

Control Tac 3M Control Tac (180c) w/ 8518,8519, or 8520 should work. I would avoid putting a stomp pad down. If you do want to put a stomp pad down (not that anyone is judging you for using one) ; I would stick that to the actual deck first and trim around it. You don't want the pad pulling...
  11. Artcut Files - Help Desperately Required

    It's a miracle Leprechaun phalange regeneration! It's a friggin miracle people!:thumb:
  12. Suggestions and opinions

Use dibond / max metal I would use Dibond or MaxMetal(Grimco brand). If it's against a fence it should work well and will last well over a year. It's pretty close in price to 10mm coroplast.
  13. What do you do for electronic proofs?

What do you guys do/suggest for creating digital proofs for clients and even internal use? I've created templates in Illustrator in the past, but I have a few problems/annoyances with this method. Pros: • Everything stays in one file (notes, artwork, etc.) • I have a javascript that will...
  14. HP latex printers - Maintenance required when not in use?

I 2nd that • I agree with the guy who obviously works at HP. :) I've let both my HP L26500 & L25500 sit for 1-3 weeks without any problems. Get's me worried a bit coming from solvent world, but you really don't have anything to worry about. • Maintenance is pretty much all done by user...
  15. DesignJet L26500 - Waving on print? Help

Cheap banner material I've had this exact issue with both HP L25500 & L26500. It was cheap banner material that was the culprit. I tried using Grimco's house brand "Key Banner" and also "Peak" banner material and got the same results you are getting. As soon as I switched back to 13oz...
  16. Install printed clear vinyl on 2nd surface of clear acrylic

I have graphics that I printed on Avery 1060 clear vinyl. I am mounting them to the 2nd surface of clear acrylic. I am using my laminator to mount, but the 1" hinge that I do by hand to start it looks like crap because of air bubbles. Any tips on getting this to look better? 1 - Should I...
  17. Printer Recommendation Needed - Kid's Room Wall Art

Get an HP Latex printer I printed wall murals for children's hospitals all across the country using my HP L25500 Latex printer. Great printing of solid colors (no banding), easy to maintain and can print on a wide variety of media (paper, canvas, different fabrics, etc.) I would recommend...
  18. L26500 Stops Printing During Job 63:05

Add 2nd ethernet port I had the same issue on my l25500. I installed a 2nd ethernet port on the RIP computer and ran the connection DIRECTLY from the RIP to the printer. That fixed the problem for me. Too much congestion on the network was causing the connection between the printer and rip...
  19. Need vinyl that will stick to latex painted drywall and cement block exterior

Arlon DPF 8000 Arlon DPF 8000 w/ Arlon 3220 laminate. That stuff will stick to anything. I would just do both walls with Arlon to be safe. I've used both HP 9000 solvent and a HP L25500 Latex printer with great results. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj5avQjyNyw - Go team!
  20. iMac or Mac Pro?

Convenient vs. upgradable After typing a lengthy response to this (on my 27" iMac) , get the Mac Pro. I had a whole list of pros vs. cons for both, but it I think it really comes down to scalability for me. An iMac is great, pretty fast, somewhat upgradable, and looks great. But when in 2...
