  1. One-step away from buying a channel letter bending machine.

We bought an Accubend Freedom and just like said earlier once you understand the constraints of the machine and how to design for it. I was a great investment to compete with other local sign shops that had been doing them for years. Is it the best machine out there? Probably not but we get...
  2. White or Clear acrylic for push through.

We've always used clear and backed it in white translucent vinyl. The vinyl goes to the edge of the back of the acrylic which is a good 1/4" beyond where it pushes through. We haven't had any issues to doing this way.
  3. What’s your thoughts on a Vanguard VR 6

The hybrid was fine on flat stock as long as registration didn't matter. The conveyor vacuum is not a true science in my opinion.
  4. New Employee Training

Our first position for any hire is production. That way they get a feel for the materials/applications and get to know the what and why. We keep them in production off and on for a couple weeks. Someone new to the sign world will need at least a years worth of training, my boss and I have been...
  5. What’s your thoughts on a Vanguard VR 6

Hello, We have a Vanguard VK300D, it's a little over two years old. It has been a huge leap forward for us in comparison to our EFI H1625 it replaced. The speeds are amazing, we have 6 heads (2 White) it will print a 4x8 in 4 minutes. One of the reasons we bought this machine is that we can...
  6. LED Retro Fits

We've bought the SignHero brand replacement bulbs. They are double sided and have worked well for us. Glantz has them available. Otherwise we've gotten edge LEDs and put those around the entire frame and elimated the bulbs, the run about $4/per led, we get those from GOQ along with the...
  7. Deciding Between Industrial CNC and ShopSabre

Hello Jonathan, We currently have a base model Multicam 1000 series, it's a tank. But when we need service, it's been crickets. They were recently bought out so the service has been better. I have explored the ShopSabre, and we are pretty sold on it. It has lifetime phone support and you are...
  8. Cutter or Router: Colex v Shop Sabre

Hello, we currently have both a Summa F1612 Flatbed cutter and a Multicam 1000 Series router (Base Model, no tool changer) The workflow on the Summa is great with the barcode system and the speed of it is great! We are looking to replace the Multicam in the next few years and the ShopSabre is...
  9. Suggestions Bringing banner finishing in-house

We got this grommeter from YESCOM it comes with 10,000 grommets! It's been cheaper to buy another one of these instead purchasing the grommets. It only uses the top of the self piercing grommets so multiple layers of banner are tougher to get through (Corners) It has wheels to move sideways down...
  10. White Ink Adhesion

I've only used the AP-3155 on acrylics, even then if you aren't printing heavy saturation or solid colors 1st surface you can see they wipe marks/hand prints. Although it takes longer we've routed acrylic and just used the promoter on the edge and printed with bleed, if you have multiples you...
  11. White Ink Adhesion

Patrick, are you having any luck with any materials? Or can you get sample sheets of different products than you normally use from your vendor? Are you putting white down when printing everything or just dark/clear substrates? On white material, if we start seeing finger prints we will lay down...
  12. Suggestions Bringing banner finishing in-house

We've been using a Leister welder for 20+ years. We've had the same machine and have had to get it repaired every five years with maybe $500 worth of parts in that time. Seems like with every machinery upgrade we don't understand how we could live without it now. The speed in which you can get...
  13. White Ink Adhesion

Hello Patrick, We have a VK300D-HS 6-head setup so 2 heads of white ink. The only issue we've ran into with ink flaking off is print on standard clear acrylic without using an ink promoter. ACM (Maxmetal), PVC (Palight) we don't have any issues with. We've been buying digital ready acrylic...
  14. Kiss Cut on a Zund/Summa/Kongsberg

We have a Summa F1612 and we have the software set down position and depending on the vinyl/lam configuration we always do test cuts and just turn the blade as needed. It's been working out really well.
  15. Brick Vinyl Removal and Install

We have installed 3M 480 on brick, it took us little to no time at all to remove. It was up for 2 - 2 1/2 years 26'x10'. It was on bare brick with no paint so I can't speak to how much paint will come with it. With not knowing which material was used it's a guessing game. I'd just tell them...
  16. Multicam Apex 1 Issues

We've been running a Mulitcam for the past 9 years and the thing is a tank. The service on the other hand isn't great, we use a former tech of Multicam to come service our machine. He's out of Colorado and because there are 4 or 5 machines in the area we just have him add us to his trips. But...
  17. Accubend returns didn't work

We have an Accubend Freedom, there was a learning curve to setting up the files. We keep a binder to spell it all out so we don't have to rely on one person to take care of all the channel letter jobs. I would contact CCI, they should be able to provide a new computer to run your machine. As...
  18. Suggestions What LEDs do you use and why?

We use GOQ LEDs (https://goqledamerica.com), they are Samsung LEDs rebranded. We have never ran into any issues. I have recently used Hanley LED for RGB Color changing options, they also have a very slim transformer which helps with interior jobs.
  19. Looking to change printers and needing some advice

On Epson repairs using Decision1, I have yet to have a bad experience. They ship out 3 large boxes of every part under the sun ahead of the technician showing up. The great thing about that is your never waiting for a part to show up later, they have more than they need everytime. We have two...
  20. To hem or not to hem?

We don't hem it normally. We use bannerups or powertabs to help reinforce the grommets.
