Has anyone used this on a wrap? I see its not indicated for it on 3M's website, but the 8520 matte still shows a little glare.

What is everyone using for a matte lam with no shine at all....

I have not used the 8915 laminate but I have seen it in use. It was used for the American Wrap Star competition at the ISA show last month. You can kind of see the end result on the 3M Graphics Facebook page (pics here). From what I saw, I don't know how you could get a more dull matte. The printed blacks looked much like the matte black paint-alternative wrap vinyls. Hope this helps.

8915 ultra-matte is recommended for wraps. Where did you see on 3Mgraphics.com that it's not? I'll get it fixed. Thanks.

Take a look at the Hexis brand. They also have a carbon fiber, pearl, matte white, and what they call beetle. They have a minmum of 5 years and most are 10. They have the Hexis air release liner. They are awesome.

I'm psyched about the ultra-matte... really nice finish, its almost like a crayola crayon. ISA show was great, and using the ultramatte for the wrapstar was a cool idea... at this point we all know what matte and glossy look like.. this was like, Batmobile finish, pretty friggen cool.

on a side note: I just printed a half-car wrap for my sister's graduation, CV3'd and ultra-matted it, that's going on her 2007 saab 9-3. Gonna ninja wrap the passenger side while she's sleeping tonight, as my present... looks pretty sweet for a 2hr design job. Shame she'll most likely make me take it off, but she's not commin' back home for 3 weeks.

Hexis does make some great wrapping cast but they do not make an ultra-matte laminate like the 8915. Hexis does make a cast matte laminate for wraps but it's going to be more like the 8920.

I just wrapped my Honda Element and a co-worker's Civic using 8915 Ultra Matte. Feller's had to special order it, which kinda made me feel like I was making a mistake. But it looks fantastic, flat as construction paper! Time will tell how it holds up, but initially it is great.

osnap! i made the comment but never owned up with pix!
In the end, my sister ended up stopping me while i was ninja-wrapping her passenger side because her neighbors called up and ratted me out that someone was messing with her car! lol. Owell, i got most of it done and it ended up staying on for 2 weeks until she came home and made me remove it:)

Oracal 290 matte

This is a dead matte and have been using it for years, never use gloss and onceinawhile will use 8519, did not know that 3M had a dead matte, have used 8520 which does have a glare to it.

We used Oracal 210m on our shop van, since we'll re-wrap it in than 2 years, and Oracal 290m on the trailer. Shhh ... we used 3m 180c on both with another manu's lam (it's a myth anyway - don't believe the hype).

Anyway, I was pleased with how the finishes looked on both.

We'll prob try the 3M and/or Avery brand on the next full color "matte" job we get. I say "full color" because any straight black, white, grey or green, we'll use either 3m 1080 series or Hexis.
