5.0 can't install fonts & other issues

I am not able to install fonts thru font manager in tray anymore. I can uninstall, but can't install. not sure why as I haven't done either a font install or uninstall since going to 5.0.

also, I am having issues opening files. can't get PDFs to open, ones I have made or anyone elses and can't open .ai files

any help appreciated
