Well last week we had an Amish customer was trying to get some graphic idea together for them then she used our smart phone to call her sister-in-law that was also Amish she had chatgbt and banged out a couple logo designs and emailed them to us! So there u go. Have to change or be out of business!

Those two are walking a tight line and I'm willing to bet that it is very controlled and more likely not outside of a business setting.

That all depends. I have to wonder if this is going to be auto conversion (or auto digitizing some might call it) 2.0. Both "AI" (or again, what passes for it) and auto conversion have to be in very specific situations to actually have something work to make it worth having to have used the process to begin with. I know shops that do nothing but auto conversion at very cheap rates and that has ruined the perception (much like "AI" is doing) of the craft. There are things that people absolutely need to adapt to, the problem with "AI" (and auto conversion before it) as far as my needs are, it takes far more to deal with the sub par results and fix what it needs to be fixing compared to just doing it myself. It actually costs more in time compared to actually doing it myself. Also, I found it ironic that the people that are actually closest to these "AI" systems have to be forced as apart of their job to use it, because they don't really want to use it (otherwise there would be no need to make it apart of their job review, I think some even have quotas on usage, why if it's the best thing out there, particularly those that are closest to this systems, I would imagine that they would be the ones most likely to make these systems just sing right along with very minimal hiccups?). This isn't even going in to the legal aspect of it all.

Well I am going to carry this on!!!!
It is Wednesday afternoon and we have had about twenty new clients so far this week all with AI generated artwork of which the largest piece of artwork was 115kb in size.
I am then requesting the artwork in vector or very high resolution raster and then recieving the same low quality raster file saved as a pdf.

The images are of such a low quality in places the letterstyle or text wording is ilegible.

Personally I am losing the will to live over the misguided individuals who think that AI is the answer.

I had one clientwho was using an obscure AI programme and when asked "if I could use his log in details so that I could see if I could export at something I could use?" his answer was that "he had some sensitive information stored which he was not willing to share!!!"

Yeap, that's the problem with using the same Ai to design logos that you use to get your rocks off...

If it makes you feel any better, it looks like the "AI" vendors are needing to rise prices. So it looks like the "Wild West" cheap usage time period is coming to an end.

Better hope that your client isn't using one with internet access. No way be able to protect that "sensitive" information if it's out in the ether.

And then we have nVidia (who are profiting from making chips that run the AI datacenters) today saying that they are finding that using AI costs more than using people to do the same work....

That's what happens when the AI company has a near trillion dollar stock valuation but has yet to show any profit, much less any sort of revenue stream at all to justify such a grandiose valuation.

To be fair, this goes on regardless if something is BS or not. Get people hooked with a free/low cost sample and when it's apart of their daily workflow/life, that's when pricing starts coming in (sounds a lot like another type of work out there). Why I don't even like getting hooked on tooling that is specific to vendors and use the more manual tools as that transfers (most of the time) to other workflows if I have to change for whatever reason. But even if one was to get caught up in that hype, the fact that so many of these companies that are on ground level to this have mandates of "AI" usage tied to employee evaluations, should have told people that even ones that are close to these very systems aren't really using it to the higher up's satisfactions.

But I would also mention that part of this BS hype is also the term "AI". What most on here are talking about and what most on here have access to is certainly not "AI" by any stretch of the imagination.

However, unless this dam really does burst, I don't see it loosening either (it will never go away, even it if just becomes autocomplete 2.0), however, the top 3 OSs either have, or planing to have this shoved in there. Obviously Windows, but Macs have it (although at a different level of integration compared to Windows, last I saw anyway), but there was a forum post that Ubuntu is going all in on it as well and that affects a lot of other distros as quite a few are based off Ubuntu (that may also come to Debian, but that would depend, they have their own concerns ancillary to this).

Now if AI was able to take these "AI produced mockups" and flatten, straighten, fix its glitches and vectorize them, then we'd have something!

I have been in the sign industry since the mid 80s and owned my own business since 2001.
I am loosing my mind over the artwork clients are now presenting that they want on there signs & vehicles!!!
Basically they are asking ChatGPT or some other AI rendering programme to create a logo which spits out something that they think they want.
Everytime it is a low quality image that has no editable capabilities or is useable in the space they have.
How is everyone dealing with this issue as I am at my end trying to educate people?
Then what makes it worse is they resend exactly the same image over in a pdf and think this is now editable!!!

The problem is the low-res image they send. Sometimes there is no way to get the AI to make a high res image. But maybe they just don't know what to ask for. If they make it and ask for an .EPS file of it, then you could scale it cleanly to any size. Or if they ask the AI to give them a 1200dpi TIF file of it, then that would be usable. But most people today think the little image on their phone is just perfect. So they settle for whatever comes to them. And then you get a 72 dpi thumbnail!

If they make it and ask for an .EPS file of it, then you could scale it cleanly to any size.

That's also going to depend on the model that is used. Not all models can render vector files. After that, I have to wonder just how good those vector files are for production (I have seen so called "professionals" render not very good vector files for production and depending on what process one is talking about, could be very bad for it).
