Another Workaround Bites the Dust and Another One Gone and Another One Gone

At least in the canary channel it appears, so far.

It's not like they weren't talking about this. Shoot, they want people on thin clients to where there is just enough bootstrap on the local device to launch an Azure instance that's the "computer". I miss the old school days of "dummy terminals" versus this. At least that mainframe was still local more compared to this.

Dafug........................ ?? Is this all about games and nothing really of any importance ?? While at work, if solitaire or free cell can't give ya a short break, go out and vape or put another mask on to keep the computer icky cooties away from ya.

No, this is about workarounds for local accounts on your Windows computer going bye bye (atleast the ones that they are aware of and trying to handle piece meal at a time). MS is wanting people to have to sign in to an MS account to access your computer. Which makes for a wonderful bit of telemetry as well (the main problem that I have with this).

The ultimate goal is for them to have everyone on thin clients and your "computer" is some Azure instance (as WASM gets better and the web get faster, this is actually more likely to happen). Part of the problem that we have is this hyper connectivity online (be it everything we do is via online or we have SaaS software that only works with an internet connection, who knows what connections that we aren't aware of that are being made, perfect vectors for viruses etc) and that is also lead to all of these malware/ransomware attacks, we are too connected. Imagine if one has to login to account, heave forbid into an Azure instance, but internet is down for whatever reason. Dead in the water, even if everything else is just fine.

No, my concern here isn't about games (although I do enjoy gaming and even have created a few 2D ones myself, I really think the mention in the article was about Game Pass and those that have it already have to sign in, nothing else, unless I missed it, although I don't have solitaire installed, so no, it won't provide much of a break, I use Arch (by the way), very little comes pre-installed).

There will always be a way.

I'm in the process of reverting most the windows 11 machines back to 10.... Windows 11 is too bloaty, it starts off fast but after a few months it becomes so unstable and shitty. Where as all our windows 10 production machines work fine.

I'll just be pirating the free updated they're giving to European users ‍♂️

Why bother. The general consensus on reddit when microsoft announced the end of updates:

At least they can't break it anymore.

The "way" should be in the system itself.

It will always be a game of catch up and if one is still getting updates, always have to worry about if something is reverted back. If aren't getting the updates, may as well not even be upgrading after Win 10 goes EOL this month.

The one thing that I haven't liked about Windows since the 9x era (and there was a lot more user power back in that day (not necessarily computational power, but just what one could actually do with the system)) is that everything is so coupled together. Even the friggin' chromium based browser is in the system that removing it breaks other bits of the system. Regardless if one cares about those other bits and bobs, it breaking the other things is just bad, no way really to spin it otherwise, just one is slightly less egregious compared to the other.
