back to Times Roman font from Calibri

The US State Department is switching fonts from Calibri to Times New Roman after a new directive from the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. Times New Roman had been the departmental standard for many years until it was replaced with Calibri in 2023.

Microsoft switched default Cablibri to Aptos immediately after state department made the swap.
Maybe some fiddlin' was goin' on trying to make the taxpayer buy some font licenses?

Arial Sucks.
The builds of Times New Roman bundled in recent versions of Windows are definitely better than past versions. The character set is greatly expanded with features like true small capitals, discretionary ligatures and more. It has Roman numeral figures, but there isn't any one-click conversions from regular numerals to Roman (I have a couple OpenType fonts that have that capability).

Still, some of the tracking in Times New Roman looks a little funny. I guess they can put only so many kerning pairs into the fonts.

Times New Roman has a sort of plain vanilla feel to it, but that's probably because the typeface is a default and commonly used in so many different kinds of documents.

Serifs make reading a lot of copy easier - that's why they use it in newspapers and books.
Myriad on the other hand, is just a slightly fancy Arial - no serifs so it's for headlines.

Quit buggin' me
First, they booted the rainbows out of the military
Then they announced the Pantone Color of the Year
Now they pushed Calibri out of the way for Times New Roman
Could this be the arrival of three out of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, signaling the start of the end?

I never like Time New Roman. I use Myrid Pro as my default.
Myrid Pro is way better than Times New Roman but I'm sure the licensing fees are way higher too. I don't want to be taxed so the government can have Arial, or what ever is open source.

Okay, so Times New Roman has a licensing fee too.

The government should use Liberation Serif https://www.dafont.com/liberation-serif.font --- It is open source STOP WASTING MY MONEY!
