Hi guys. I'm going to be doing a full color change soon and am looking for suggestions for a good, easy to use media. it'll be a standard color, not printed. If anyone has done a color change with good results. let me know what you used and how it went. This will be on a pontiac G6

I may also be doing a second color change but with flat or satin black. any suggestions here? This wilL be on a Subaru WRX.

+ on paint. Way easier for something one color. Macco paints cars for $300 if no body work is needed. You'll have that in vinyl.

lol. thanks.

A bit more spendy and permanent than I'd like.

Also, matte black as PAINT is not a wise option. VERY high maintanence.

Oracal 970 I think it is called. You can find it at Advantage Sign Supply. Good stuff. Solid color with lam so it is ready to go off of the roll.

Thanks,
Kurt

you guys obviously have no idea what kind of quality maaco does. My car cost me 26k, the last place on earth i'd ever let touch my car is maacos... if this were a rusty 89' escort, then maccos it is.

vinyl is way better for matte black

and for the G6, it can always return to stock color for resale (with fresh paint underneath!)

The point was, you can't get vinyl to change the color of your car for anything close to $300. I wouldn't let Maaco touch my pride and joy either. It's going to cost you at least a grand to wrap the car and do it right, probably more.

I didn't say it was going to be cheap. I'm asking for options on vinyls. regardless it's going to be cheaper than paint. I can get wholesale pricing through work.

I'm with you nate, maaco would never touch anything that I own even if it was 20 years old. A good paint job by a reputable body shop is going to cost you at least $2000 without touching the jambs. Heard alot about the Hexis but haven't tried it yet.

Well there is the other option that is both paint and vinyl! It's called flx paint and it's a cast vinyl film that is actually painted with automotive paint and clear coat. It's not the cheapest stuff but it sure looks like a nice product. I have never used it but they look to have the flat black your looking for and they have used it to wrap many exotic cars.

It is only a Subaru, not like doing my Stringray with vinyl.

Are you even in the sign biz? The only other thread I found with you wanting to copy some software so you could make signs at home for your friends.

yes i've been a designer at my place of employment for almost 3 years. among pretty much everyhting else, we do vehicle graphics and the occasional wrap. usually printed on 3M IJ110 cv3 and a lot on 280 scotchlite. our niche market is 23k gold leaf graphics.

we have 2 mimaki jv-3, one 36" and one 54"
3 gerber edge II/envision plotters
54" mimaki plotter, 36" mimaki plotter, a 36" HP, and a brother gt-30

i can use the stuff at work, but when i'm at work... I'm working. I want the programs at home to play on.

Just called Hexis to get info/samples and the rep told me about their new HX30000 line. They are offering a matte black as well as beetle, pearl and carbon black finishes. Can't personally vouch for the product, but may be worth checking out.

not to hi-jack the thread, but why do customers always drop 50k on a nice new work truck and balk at the lettering job,
customer: "my truck is being re-painted for $900 and i only budgeted $1000 for new paint and lettering"
