When investing in a 5R or Durst, you’re expected to run tens of thousands of square feet—so I'd imagine ink pricing is negotiable for high-volume users like yourself. But here’s the real kicker: you could buy multiple Colorados for the price of one Durst or the other printers you mentioned.
Also, If Colorado is running at under $0.10 per sq. ft. according to signs101 users, while Latex/Resin/eco-solvent is over $0.20+, it’s a no-brainer if you have the volume. The real question is: how much ink do these other printers use compared to the Colorado? That’s the key to negotiating ink costs with a solid sq. ft. commitment. After all, I attended a tradeshow where Caon compared 5 wallpaper images side by side printed by five separate companies across our great nation, and you could not tell the difference in color or quality. I haven't seen that done before with any print technology. Do we really need a 10-foot printer if we mainly run 54"/64" wide material...
I would love to hear your thoughts on how you are handling ink pricing in your setup.
I go in and out of grand format shops every day. So many 10' printers running 54 media all day, every day.

Hi. We've been running a Colorado for approximately 6 months now and very pleased with quality & speed. However, when it was turned on a few days ago for the standard maintenance... which we do daily.... an error came up. An engineer came in today to resolve and said a data cable has broken from the print head.
Because we have a monthly service contract, the service & replacement head (one per year) is included.
But a few hours later, he said that 2 other heads have gone.... the data cable torn/cut from the head and we have to pay to replace due to "physical damage" !!!

whoah! we only turned the printer on... as shown on their log.... and it's crashed! and we have to pay!!! It's only 6 months old!

Anyone else experience this failure?

Seems like this should be covered by warranty

"Canon U.S.A., Inc. (“Canon”) warrants the Canon Colorado M3/M5 Series product (“Product”) to be free from material defects in workmanship and material under normal use and service for a period of two (2) years after delivery to the original end user customer (“Customer”), provided that the Product’s printhead is so warranted for two years after delivery to the Customer, or 215,000 square feet of print layers, whichever occurs first. I hope you are not having to use And pay for the service contract during warranty. 6 month old machine can't be out of warranty by any means. That would be horrendous.

(Yes I know you can prepay for it but still it should only start after warranty)

Overall Price of service contract will be the same no matter when you buy. Buying sooner means lower monthly payment and more heads earned.

I learned this the hardway.

If service costs lets say 60k for 5 years, you'll pay the whole 60k no matter if you buy the contract on day 1 or on day 600

My point being warranty period should still be warranty and not the service contract which might have worse terms sometimes.

Thanks for prompt replies.
Yes we pay for a monthly service contract.. £220/month. . ($298)
The call out engineer called it "physical damage" which voids the warranty on those parts! He seemed imply that we caused the problem... but didn't know how and knows we only turned it on for maintenance... as per the log.
Just read their Warranty and can't see a clause against us.
Will post a pic tomorrow of the damage.
