CE6000-60 flashed with wrong firmware

Hi all — I’m trying to revive a used Graphtec CE6000-60 plotter that appears to have been flashed with the wrong firmware (possibly from a CE6000-120AP). It powers on, but initially throws this error:

NG!!! DIP-SW = 0001
FIRMWARE = 120AP (AP DIP-SW = 0011)

I pulled the side panel and changed the DIP switches to match the installed firmware (0011). It then booted to the home screen successfully. However, any operation causes an error related to push roller placement — and if I disable that check, the cutter slams left and errors out, suggesting the firmware is for a longer model.

I contacted Graphtec support, and they pointed me to the latest firmware, but the plotter refuses to accept it. Using SEND.EXE, the transfer goes through, the plotter shows it’s receiving data, but at the end I get:
  • “Bad Firmware CE6000” or
  • “Checksum Error”
  • Using the UPDATE.exe app with version 270 is completely unresponsive.
This leads me to believe the firmware update process is checking the current model ID and refusing to overwrite itwith the correct firmware. To test that theory, I tried flashing the latest CE6000-120AP firmware — and that did install successfully, reinforcing the mismatch theory.

My guess is that either:
  • The wrong mainboard was installed (maybe a used AP120 board), or
  • It was improperly flashed in a previous repair attempt.
Has anyone successfully forced a firmware overwrite on a Graphtec plotter?

I'm looking for:

  • A key combo to force bootloader or recovery mode
  • Info on JTAG or serial access (if possible)
  • A known-good firmware dump (or even a tool to generate one)
I’d appreciate any guidance from the community. Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

djeans

Update app turns an online cutter to service mode.
There is a Key combo for service mode. and you might be able to use a send.exe to send the firmware file directly to the port.
Just like CE5000 firmware.
I cannot remember now, It could be left+Right, but not sure.
