changing the sponge? jv3spII

I purchased a new sponge to exchange with the old one. I see the old one is held on with double sided tape. Is there an easy way to replace this thing? I seem to be pulling piece by piece out.

Also the sponge just sits vertical along the back of the wiper parking station? For some reason I thought it would be along the top of the station so the wiper would wipe against it, but I must be mistaken.

Is it the sponge that the wiper wipes against to clean itself before passing over the head(s)?
