Corrupted EPS?

Wow,
Working on a design today in X3.
Saved 6 diff versions as I went along, thought I was smart.
Impoted final vesrsion (Older versions are still saved.) to Wasatch RIP to print first prototype.
First prototype needs some work, I go back to Corel to open file and Core says it cant open the file. It is an EPS.

Common denominators:

I can still open the file in the Wasatch RIP but cant , of course, save it.
I did the F8, no luck.
All other versions of the file, in the folder are also in trouble.
Other, non related files, in the folder are OK.

This is a 40" x 40" file with a lot of vectors and bitmaps.
I have 4 G of ram.
I have never had this problem before.

I tried saving the file and using another Corel program on another computer...no luck.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Corel and Flexi are both notorious for not opening their own EPS exports. Try manually selecting the AI / EPS file type when you open it in Corel. Otherwise, send the file to someone who has Illustrator to open and resave for you.

And always, ALWAYS, save the original files as cdr's before you export them! I've learned many years ago that corel will crash when you really need something done, it just knows somehow!

Just had this happen yesterday afternoon at 4PM and ended up having to redo 10 minutes of work because it crashed on an eps export. Luckily, I saved as cdr and reopened, reworked the lost 10 minutes worth of art, saved, exported and promptly crashed again! 3rd time was the charm, converted everything to curves and it exported without incident.

Just my advice, it may create a ton of extra files on your machine, but its well worth a little wasted space...

Thanks Chris and Fred.
I always usedto save as a CDR but got in the habit of saving .eps because thats what my Wasatch RIP looks for.
I'm also attempting to open it in Flexi, it hasnt been rejected yet but is taking a long time to load, 40% at the moment.

I would recommend saving in native format throughout the design process. Then you can export as .eps prior to printing.
