Cropping a photo into a circle?

I have a photo and I would like to crop part of it into the shape of a circle. Is there an easy way to do this? I've been drawing a circle then erasing the stuff around that but it's time consuming. Plus, I'd like the edges to be smoother than I can do with the eraser tool.

its called a layer mask in photoshop or a clipping mask in illustrator...

Make your circle selection while on the photo you wish to crop, make sure you have that layer selected, then click the Add Layer Mask button on the bottom of your layers palette. Its the one with the circle inside of a square.

Depending on the software you have, in coreldraw you can powerclip it also.
