Cut contour not following cutpath

I am experiencing an issue when I am trying to add a cut contour to some artwork.

When I apply the cut contour line in some areas the cut contour is not following the path like it should.

I have attached a close up image of one section that I am experiencing this.

It is happening inconsistently thru out the entire graphic. Any suggestions?

The thin gray (cut contour) line is a little tough to see but you can see that in some areas it doesn't follow the path it should

Couple of questions:

Did you trace the image? Might be reading other lines or objects left after tracing.

What does the image look like when you remove the color? You might see exactly what the contor cut is following when there is no color.

This is the entire image. What I originally portrayed was a silhouette mask of this artwork with the cut contour.

If you did this in flexi and used the bezier tool to outline the image and didn't clean up the contor before you mask it, the contor cut flollowed your outline, not the image itself. You have spend some time editing the nooks and cranies before you mask it.

If you did this in Photoshop, forget the above.

Is the artwork in vector format? If so, duplicate the silhouette shown, weld it all together (if necessary), convert to outlines and go to Arrange>Contour Cut>Make Contour Cut.

If I understand correctly, you are adding a contour cut via Effects>Contour Cut which sometimes produces anomalies similar to those seen in the Outline feature. Avoid this by creating your own vector cut path and transforming it into a contour cut via Arrange>Contour Cut>Make Contour Cut.

Thanks for all the input guys. I didn't use photoshop to create the cutout from the alpha mask. The mask was produced thru Flexi.

The vectored silhouette that was created in Flexi is what I am trying to add the cut contour to. It is a perfect mask of the artwork.

In attempt to create another mask
I did try taking the vectored mask and did a cut out of a square and compounding the cut out from the square > making another (different) vector path.

However it follows the vector path just the same.

dont use flexi, but can you output the mask as a b/w jpg (large resolution) bring into illy and vectorize it, then bring that eps back into flexi? just throwin it out there...

Duplicate the perfect vector mask, and go to Arrange>Contour Cut>Make Contour Cut. What happens?

I would like to THANK everyone for helping me with my issue. and a special Thanks to thewood for helping me thru my issue. I have never used the Arrange method of adding a cut contour and he informed me of how it was done, and it worked perfectly. KNOWLEDGE is POWER.. THANKS A MILLION

We have a problem in flexi sometimes that when applying a contour cut to lettering and/or graphics, the cut line misses a spot or two (like it skips a small area then continues on). We have always used the effects-contour cut-set the other choices and sent to the cutter/plotter (versacamm).

Will using the arrange method solve this problem? All the lettering is done in flexi and all the images are vector (no tracing to my knowledge). This seems to be a random issue. Thought I would ask before I try.

Thanks
Larry
