Do I need to start looking online for a new head?

After reading, reading, PMing and reading some more, as a last resort I did a manual head wash by filling an extra damper with cleaning solution and slllllloooooowwwwly and gently pushing it through my Y head on my JV3-160SP.

Instead of seeing all of the solution come out of the bottom of the head like water would come out of a shower (represented by yellow arrow in my fuzzy pic), to my horror a majority of it leaked out from above the nozzles (dastardly red arrow).

I am assuming that this means my head is trashed and I need to start looking for another one. Am I right, or can it miraculously be saved?

Sounds like the screen has come loose and you are going to need a new head. I have a JV3 160 S and have taken a head apart even broke it open to see the insides and if it is leaking from around that ring you are going to need a head in my opinion. If you order a new head take that one apart and you will see what I am talking about. If you dont have another head you need to keep that one in the machine so it will run through its sleep cleaning and not jack up your other heads while your waiting on the new one to come in. If you are going to put the head in yourself contact http://www.solventinkonline.com really nice people call them sometimes they will give you a better price if you call.

ouch, that picture makes baby jesus cry...

anywho, great deals on heads @ solventinkjet.com
its where I order from and haven't any problems with the 3 heads I've purchased.

MikePro, thanks for the response. Your posts in another thread where you describe replacing your heads have helped me decide to do it myself. I need to learn to be my own tech, anyway.

no prob! sometimes it just takes someone to say that its really not that hard (thanks Artbot!) to replace the heads yourself. just make sure to take your time, and ALWAYS make a hard copy of the code on your new head... as it wipes off if you get solvent on your fingertips.

first head installed took me 3hrs... but now I can do it in under 30min! (although i still take 1hr'ish just to make sure i'm not rushing)

PM me if you need help finding documentation... there's a yahoo.usergroups that has all the info you'll need.

Where can I find a 50x scope for adjusting the head? I've gathered about everything else. I'm hoping to get one locally that doesn't cost a fortune. What do you guys use?

Thanks to everyone in this thread and on this site. I replaced the bad head, all 8 dampers and all 8 ribbon cables several weeks ago. I took my time. Aside from being a nervous wreck doing this for the first time, all went very well.

Thank you so much to Kent at MacMedia. He's a merchant member here and I cannot recommend him strongly enough. I ordered all my parts from his site at 10 a.m. on a Saturday, and they were delivered early the next business morning. He also gave me a very, very generous Signs101 discount.
