Double thick alumalite??

So a customer brought in some sign panels for us to re-face... after looking at the panels we determined one was too damaged, and not worth repair so we talked them into getting a whole new sign. At first look, the sign has 2 brackets at top for hanging, and looks to be made of 2 pieces of 6mm sandwiched together... But after closer inspection the aluminum skins where the 2 pieces are joined are missing. Side profile is: Aluminum skin,
Corrugated plastic, Corrugated plastic, Aluminum skin.

Anyone know what this material is? Or how this sign was made??

Alumalite comes in both 6mm and 10mm - the 10mm has two coroplast layers, like in your picture.

Very interesting... Thanks for the info. The vendor we normally use for our substrates doesn't offer that thickness, only 3mm and 6mm... Must be why we've never seen it.

FYI:
ml (millilitre) = metric measurement for liquid/gas volume
mil = Imperial measurement for 1/1000 of an inch. Outside of the US is referred to as a "thou", serving to avoid this type of confusion.
mm (millimetre) = metric measurement for 1/1000 of a metre

I refer to a million different things as "mil" but mostly just when verbally saying it. 2mil vinyl, 3mil vinyl, 4mil coroplast, 3mil dibond etc etc.

Around our shop the correct terminology is important.

"I want a 10 mil plastic"

The difference between 10mm and 10mil is about 3/8" in thickness.

This kind of miscommunication doesn't usually cost you money, heartache or a customer...until it does.
