Drawing a Blank on VFW Sign...

I have attached the design that I sent to the customer, and I have also attached a pic of the sign the customer currently has...

The only things the customer said about the sign is that he wanted the colors to be red, white, & blue, and he wanted the same wording minus "Ladies Auxiliary" and he also wanted the 2 logos... Sent him the proof, which isn't anything special, but has everything he asked for, and is very easy to read. He called earlier and said that he is ok with what we have, but would like it to appeal to a younger crowd. He gave no suggestions on what he would like to change or add, just wants it to be youthful... Any suggestions??

If it's younger crowd they want to attract, then I would go with a grunge type background, diamond plate, logo's exploding out of shredded metal. Use a really hard to read font, maybe Old English all upper case. J/K....I can't imagine why they want to appeal to a younger crowd. I would think that most veterans aren't any younger than thirty?

Or try something like this one I did last year?

He said that theyre losing alot of old vets, and the new soldiers that are signing up have been in Iraq, and are in their 20s...

I guess that makes sense. I don't see how you change their image too much even if they're younger. I believe it can be done, but will take some considerable thought.

Not sure if these convey young or not, but they are more contemporary perhaps. I don't know, maybe these will spur somebody else in the right direction.

I've been goofing off most of the day, better go and see that works getting done around here. Good luck to you.

nothing is gona make the "young guys" want to join other then the fact they want to stay involved in the military camaraderie they had while on active duty. OR until they need help from one of these excellent organizations to help them with VETERANS BENEFITS. most who have just gotten out of the military really dont want to be in a "group." 4 years or more of that kinda life, makes ya want privacy, alone time and finding your nitch in the life you want.
so i wouldnt really pursue much more then what you have.
i also am a MASON, and they have the same problem. older dedicated members are passing, and less & less are wanting to join. its more of a SOCIOLOGICAL change that the nation is in rather then image.
when most of these organizations started there was no internet, fackbook, cell phones, 24 hour news cycle to keep you entertained. any SOCIAL club/organization are having less people involved nowadays. we are becoming LESS SOCIAL with the advent of electronic communications.

How about adding a picture of Old Paint in his red, white and blue speedos?
