Encoder strip?

Any reason I can't use this strip: http://www.solventparts.com/products/encoder-generic-linear-lenght-100.html for $45 instead of the $300+ factory roland strip for an XC540?

it's all the same.
720/1440 heads use one lpi
and
600/1200/2400 heads use another lpi

to pay OEM prices for a strip is nuts.

if it's the same dimensions (height only in that length can be modified) then you are good to go.
