Epson S9170 - Lead out? Length before it starts printing

Before the printer starts printing, it feeds out about 8 1/2" of material, so the print starts 8 1/2" +/- from the leading front edge. Is there a way to adjust this to minimize waste?

I've been searching for weeks in the manual, Epson Academy videos & on here and cannot figure out how to change this setting, nor even know what it's called (sorry, new to wide format). I tried to adjust the wrinkle free zone on the control panel, but that didn't seem to do anything.

Not a clue- can't find it in there either in any settings (Onyx go)

8-1/2” may be the distance between 2 sensors & may be the minimum.
I imagine you can go MUCH CLOSER if you skip a sheet cut between jobs
