Exception Breakpoint

I have been getting and error messeage when I shut down my computer.
Happened again last night. After working in Flexi 8.0 for about hour. I finished up and closed program. went to shut down computer and before shutdown message pops up.

Application Error. Exception Breakpoint has been reached (0x80000003)
Click cancel to debug
click ok to terminate.

No matter which I choose message goes away and then computer shuts down. Also having trouble getting computer to go into standby mode or even hybernate mode, if I don't want to turn it off.

computer is Dell E1505 laptop
core duo 2gig ram 2.0 ghz processor.
windows xp

Ideas/thoughts what this message means or is

It means that a memory address could not be accessed. Have you recently done an XP update? Do you allow XP to update on its own?

Not sure if I let xp update.
When I turn on computer it udates itself. Spyware Dr. and Antivirus update regularly. I often get green boxes with a check mark that says updates are complete. I don't recall any update messages for xp though.
Is there a way I can check to make sure My XP is updating as it should?
