Fallen Soldier

I was needing some ideas. We have a local soldier that was a navy seal that died in Afganistan last Tuesday and his body will be flown in to the local airfield today and I am trying to make a banner for when he is flown in, but, what is appropriate or what to say at all. Any suggestions.

In remembrance of Seals name and his birthday and the day he died........If you can get a pic of him that would be nice to use also........

The family and church has asked for the general public to show up at the airport (I will be there) to show their support. This is for his church members that want something to hold since the small american flags cannot be found around here (sold out). If you do not want to help me out then thats fine, its a free country thanks to him, just dont post, ignore it and move on to the next active thread. They asked me to come up with something and that is what I am trying to do, no thanks to you.

You're not welcoming home a winning football team or live soldier.
The color guard should be the only thing that greets the soldier.

I think his picture, "In memory of" name, rank, branch of service, maybe flags both American and Navy or seals logo. If you can get a picture of him in his uniform that would be better.

It's a free country but it's not my country. There are other countrys on the planet (really?!) with soldiers in Afganistan. :Canada: America is not the centre of the universe. If you don't like my posts ignore them.

BTW, I think it's admirable that you want to show your support for the soldier and his family I just think showing up means a lot more than a cheap plastic sign.

But, the banner is not for me. We are getting back to its about "me". His church asked for something to hold and maybe hang on the fence. If his church came to you and asked you to make a banner for them i am assuming you would say "No, thats tacky". How do I respond to them asking. I dont know what is appropiate thats why i asked for your help. Like I said befor, i will be there to show support "without a banner" as the family has ASKED (for shovelhead) the community to do.

In that case get the church to tell you exactly what they want. Tell them you don't know what's appropriate and that you don't want to offend anyone.

Pay for a very nice, very tasteful engraved Brass plaque and then suggest the Vicar plant a memorial tree so there's somewhere to place the plaque.

It's my honest option that a cheap looking plastic banner is just too tacky.... and YES, if the vicar asked me to produce such a thing I would refuse point blank on the grounds of taste and decorum.

If you want to really donate something, give your employees the time off they need to welcome the fallen home (with pay of course).

The article on the British repatriation was touching. Look up "Highway of Heroes" on youtube to see what Canada does to welcome home the 141 fallen heroes we've lost so far in Afghantistan.

I think a banner would be great, have the church try to get a good photo, list his name & rank & any other service info you can obtain & thanks for his service on there also, and you can also ask any war Vet what he may ad on there & if he thinks it is a good idea.

NO banners and A Seal is not a soldier. So if you do decide to have a banner do not put anything on there about him being a soldier. Do you know what team he was in? Maybe some of the other members of his team will have some input.

Thinking respect earns respect, and why we can all enjoy posting here. If your heart says make a banner WTF should criticize you for that.

Attached are ideas for a vertical banner, they look to be in good taste if you ask me, I'm a Vietnam veteran, served 18 months in Vietnam. There is nothing tacky about them!
