Gerber Edge II shredding the foils

We have an old Edge II that we tried to use the other day and it shreds every foil we put into it. Anyone ever seen this happen? Any ideas on what might cause it?

Only time that ever happened to me was with a foil that was wound backwards so that the resin side was in direct contact with the printhead. It's probably something like the unwind side of the spool is jamming instead of providing a controlled tension while turning.

There is a way to "reset" the Edge to factory settings. You'll need to read the manual on that. It could be that the thermister (heat) is high or that the head pressure is incorrect. I think it all has to do with holding the correct buttons at start up.
