Need Help Getting a Legacy Plotter to Communicate in Windows 11

Smoke_Jaguar

Man who touches printers inappropriately.
Might need a USB adapter with a more modern chipset or manually install the adapter drivers.

Does device manager still see your com port?
what port is it!

it has been so many years I have to read the manual to remember the settings
open device manager & when you unplug usb from the pc & reconnect a second or 2later you should see it resort/redraw the list of devices
be sure to plug it back into the same port (at this time)
open ports see if it is com 3 (or 5 or 8 or whatever) right click on the port choose properties

remember if you draw an imaginary dividing your adapter in half the usb end is a plug & play device (assuming the driver loads correctly in windows 11) but the db9 or db25 end is a dumb static device.

default setting
9600 baud
8 data bits
1 stop bit
no parity bit
X on/x off flow control

A good guess is the driver forvthe adapter is not loading in windows 11
you will probably end up needing a windows 11compatible adapter but let’s check if the comport exists and toggles when you unplug the usb

I have a gs15 in my storage unit. I will grab it tomorrow & plug it into a windows 11 pc to refresh my memory

i do not like what windows 11 does to my serial connections
i have been very comfortable with them since we had the weird little digi boxes littering the wall in the server room with wyse terminals and bernoulis everywhere

Driver issues? I know a few that deal with compatibility issues due to certificates related to drivers etc. How COM parts are handled in the manager as well.

Boy, I'm all around glad that I don't have to deal with Windows anymore except as IT for my dad on occasion. I have those blocked on my house LAN as well (both Windows and Mac actually).
