Gold Vinyl

Is there any advice on which gold vinyl to use for long term vehicle application. I was going to use Oracal 651 or 751 for cut lettering on a coach but I'm concerned that vigorous washing and weathering will degrade the vinyl in a short period of time. Any recommendations.

Oracal 651 is a calendared vinyl with a 3-6 year life. Not the correct choice for long lasting graphics.

If you like Oracal, 951 would probably be a good idea.

Personally I'd go with Gerber 220 metallic gold but that's just my preference.

Metallics seem to have lower life expectancy, I would go with Avery SC950 series if it is basic lettering. There are many metallics available in color change wrap vinyl also.

I've had issues with gold and silver 651 failing after a year or so. We only use 751 now for gold and silver.

SignGold or Real Gold (I prefer Real Gold but both are good quality) are real 22k gold sputtered onto a cast vinyl film with a Tedlar top coat. They need to be applied as per the manufacturers instructions (edge sealed or overlaid with a cast vinyl outline to seal the edges). 10 year mfg. warranty (I think) and should last a few years beyond that. The 22k gold will not fade (22k gold may oxidize a bit because it is not 100% gold but would likely not be that noticeable because it is sealed). The cast vinyl film used as an outline or shadow will fail first (why I always seal the edges with a quill or the sealant pen the manufacturers sell for that purpose). Looks great and is usually an easy upsell for image conscious clients (expensive, though).

It would help this thread if you determined if it's metallic gold or gold leaf.
