I have a couple HP 365s, and I change them out when the printer tells me it's out.

It depends on the printer, our older one starts to band at about 20 percent full, on our newer printer it’s good til the ink is actually out.

I run it till it stops.
I'd be in trouble with the boss. Never let Anything get dry. If the printer says change it, we change it. Sometimes I'll get banding even before the printer whines. Change the low cartridge for quality sake.

I Change it right away…
Ink is cheap, printed decals make money.

Why test your printer to run dry??

I used to try and Kramer my Roland TR2 inks right down but found it could end up starving the printer of ink towards the end and shifting colors...tech said the inks are mounted in the machine at the right angle to give the right pressure/outflow but close to the end it has less pressure and hast to suck harder to suck the bag in and can starve it of ink...

We printed a ton of 4x8 sheet signs with large grey sections and only noticed a roll in that a low yellow had changed the grey from warm to cold when the yellow was low/fading out...now we usually still let it go past the little triangle warning but change it out way before the "This may run out" warning at the end...

Ink is twice as expensive as it was when I started...but it's still cheaper to waste a couple milliliters of ink rather than reprinting 60in material when the color has shifted enough it's a problem but not enough you notice it till it's laminated and on the table

Hi all,

I have an HP 630 and I’m just wondering how low does everyone run the boxes of ink before changing them out?
We have a HP Latex 370, 800W (both with bulk ink) and an Epson S80600. Whenever the HP's tell me there is only 1% left, I can still print a lot since there is at least 750ml in the secundary cartridges. The Epson beeps and tells me there is not enough ink to clean the heads, but I can continue printing, again for a very long time. If you shake the cartridge the printer is complaining about, you can feel there is a lot of ink left. HP : I remove the bag from the cardbord box to visualise what is left. 9 out of 10 times I can print until the bag is vacuum and hardly any ink is left. I will however change the inktcartridge when I have a large run to print but I keep the old cartridge and change it back again after the large job to print until it's empty.

We have two Roland printers with TR-2 ink, and not only do we run the cartridges all the way down, but when the machine says it's empty, I'll remove the cartridge, and use a squeegee to combine and push all the ink towards the edge, and pop it back in the machine.Sometimes we get a full day of printing before it beeps again and needs to be swapped out for a new one. I haven't clocked any loss or quality of color doing this... I feel like we've saved a lot of money this way, ink being more expensive than it ever was. If there's a large job in progress, and a printer operator is leaving for the day or taking lunch, they'll swap out any of the almost empty cartridiges for new ones, so it doesn't stop the print when no one is present. When they come back they swap the old one back in and use them until they're empty. One time when the majority of the cartridges were all super low at the same time we saw some color inconsistency, but that was a one off.
