Service contracts are never, as in ever, worth the cost. Speaking as someone who used to price service contracts [for HP of all places] I can attest to the fact that at least as much revenue is generated by service contracts as with the products themselves. Without going into excruciating detail, suffice it to say that the service contract provider is betting that you won't do as much violence, in parts and labor, as they're charging you for the service contract. On average it's cheaper to merely pay for maintenance than to pay for a service contract. By a long shot.
