Looking for another R2R UV printer setup in dual CMYK. Anyone know the true speed on a dual CMYK setup on both the Mimaki UCJV330-160 and the Roland LG-640, can't find the info online with sucha setup? how do they compare in quality, speed and any reason for one over the other?

Since you're looking at doing 4 color, I imagine speed is the goal. Based on both companies specs, the Mimaki is the clear winner.

LG-640 343 sqft/hr at 720 × 600 dpi
UCJV330 592 sqft/hr at 600 x 600 dpi (2 pass)
or 440 sqft/hr at 600 x 600 dpi (4 pass)

I went with the UCJV330-160 and should be coming in one of these days. I was thinking of flushing my Ujv-100-160 and switching to a white and varnish inkset. My dealer tells me that I should not mess with that, once you change your asking for trouble. What are your thoughts?

If you're comfortable with rerouting lines and such to enable white circulation, it's not terrible to do a change-over. However, if not familiar with digging around in printer guts, good to have a tech help. Not really an end-user kind of a job.

Gotcha — just to clarify, I wouldn’t be doing the changeover myself. My dealer is saying it’s better not to mess with it at all, even if it’s done professionally, since it can lead to issues later. Do you agree with that, or do you think it’s fine as long as a tech does it right?

If done properly, it should work fine. They're probably just worried that the head might not make it through the process properly and then will need to send you a big bill for a new head. I always tell people that want to change ink configurations like this to be prepared to need a new head and if they can't or don't want to afford it, don't do it. But if the head is in good condition now, all nozzles are firing, a proper flush. ink line configuration, and ink fill up should do the trick.

You know that UJV100 can only print white under or over the color? It can't do both. It's decided when installing the white ink.

The 330 can do pullback and in whatever order you want since both heads use 8 channels and they are setup the same in spite of staggering. Not sure on the Roland though.

I'm also searching for relevant information. I use glossy ink extensively for printing stickers. I've seen feedback suggesting the UCJV330 performs worse than the LG-640 in this regard, but I've also encountered a significant number of extremely negative reviews for the LG-640. Now I'm completely unsure how to choose.

Just need to tweak settings for thicker gloss ink, can also play with overprints to get it dialed in. Still good to get samples before dropping 5-figures on a machine.
