Mimaki UJF-3042FX - need help Error 510: X Current and Error 403: X Current

Hi everyone,

I have a Mimaki UJF-3042FX (first model).
Until now everything was fine, without any errors.

One day, when powering on the machine, the display showed: “PLEASE WAIT – SEARCHING ORIGIN”.
The printhead assy moves normally left and right, and the table moves up and down. Then the head assembly starts moving on X rails forward and then backward, when it reachs and, it makes a noise as if it is stuck, and the display shows both Error 510: X Current and Error 403: X Current.

- I tried cleaning all sensors and replaced the X-origin timing belt, but the problem still exists.

- I tried disconnect cable of X-origin home sensor – and same shows both Error 510: X Current and Error 403: X Current.

- I tried swap X-Origin sensor with Z-Table assy origin sensor – and same shows both Error 510: X Current and Error 403: X Current.

Some details when the machine is OFF:
  1. The printhead assembly moves left and right manually without any problem.
  2. When trying to move the head assembly manually forward, it does not move (I’m not sure if it is supposed to move forward when the machine is OFF). When the machine is ON, the X motor moves automatically forward and backward until it gets stuck at the end and shows the errors.
I tried entering SERVICE MODE / MAINTENANCE MODE, but it’s impossible because of these errors.

I have attached a video and pictures. If someone has had the same issue and can help me, I would appreciate it.

Seems you already posted this thread.

Any new updates, or have you checked anything since?

I posted on someones old thread before , as you recommended i opened new .

not find any solution.

Thank you .

Yup, those can get contaminated as well.
Make sure the linear rails and ballscrew are lubricated as well, that can cause a lot of drag and cause the current draw to go way up.

Also, is there anything that may be obstructing the X motion around that point?

The X-motor moves , and when the flag reach the X-origin home sensor - motor dont stop until the Assy hit the frame and so the motor stop and shows first error 510 and immidiatelly 403.
Its impossible to enter Service Mode because of this error , i cant try any sensor test or calibrate .
I dont know if this may caused by Main PCB fault ???

Yeah, the printer homes the x/y pretty early on during startup. Go in and clean and lubricate everything and see if you can get everything moving nice and smoothly. If you can access the motor, see if it is binding up or shows signs of much resistance.

As you've already tried swapping over sensors, and the fact the motion doesn't stop when the flag reaches it, it sounds like the sensor either isn't getting power, or the opposing photodiode signal isn't reaching the necessary inputs on the board - check the cabling between the sensor and the board for continuity (if cabling possibly got trapped/chafed), and also you may be able to check to see if the LED side is illuminated using a mobile phone camera (sensitive to infrared), other than that I think it probably could point to a board issue.

sounds like the X-origin sensor isn't working, the machine should stop before hitting the frame.

You can enter service mode to test the sensors by disabling the servo initialization first. Boot in Parameter update mode by pressing and holding the left and right arrows while booting up. Once it boots up, scroll to parameter 54, hit enter, and change it to 2. Hit enter to save it and the reboot while holding the remote and function keys to enter service mode. It shouldn't error out now because the motors won't initialize.

Dear thank you for help .
I entered with left right arrow pressed in Parameter update mode , in paramater number 54 it shows 54=493 CaseW.3 ----->>> tried to put 2 , and reboot with FUCTION - REMOTE key pressed but it start search origin again.
It has 3.90 firmsware . maybe paramaters are different .

It could be a firmware thing or I'm not looking at the right manual. The Parameter should be called, "Hash" and should be in the System parameters. It's the same for all Mimaki printers but not always the same parameter number.

thank you , entered service mode , by disable HASH paramater .
When i enter #TEST ang go to sensor test , Y sensor "ON" ok , Z sensor "ON" ok . Also X sensor is "ON" but when go to X-Sensor the Belt , motor and gears are moving just little , other sensor not moving table or head even they are on .
here is also Video you can see movement of belt and X motor when selected X-sesor test :

- Can gear reduction unit at x-motor maybe faulty ? or entire motor ?
- Do I have any solution to calibrate X-motor with sensor - or it calibrate automatically ?
- What do you suggest to replace x-motor or main pcb ?

Thank you .

This is where hands on will tell you more than anything people can on the internet. Make sure things are lubricated, turn the motor, feel for grinding, backlash or other indicators. Listen to hear if things sound rough, things like that. Simply put, the board says the motor is drawing too much current. Could be jammed up, bad motor, bad homing sensor, all things covered. Might be worth bringing in a tech instead of just tossing new parts and tons of time at it.

Here in Kosovo , contacted two companies that service m.imaki , but they refused to come and service machine with reason machine is to old and need a lot spare parts to test and find problem, thats the only reaaon why I'm trying to fix myself.

Time to take a good look at the motor and the gearing then. Hope you find the issue and it's an easy fix. =)
