Mimiaki Cutter Contour Cut Problems

Hi Legends! Paul here from 'Print Image Signs' Gold Coast Australia (Canadian born though) ..

I'm running Onyx and a Mimaki CG FX 2 cutter.. When we contour cut prints they seem to be going off by 1mm down teh cutter .. The first line of decals is good but as it goes down the media it goes off my a few mm and gets worse.
Any tips please? We also just replaced pinch wheels and cutting strip ! CHEERS

its been a while since i've run that plotter, but as I recall my biggest issue regarding this problem had to do with media drag offsetting the feed over the course of the print/cut.
dull blade, thick material, or laminate hanging over the edges was most likely the source.
as your cuts progress, the drag of the blade going through two layers of vinyl would progressively offset what your cutter would assume the material was at as it went....eventually leading to unacceptable results.

keeping runs to 3-4 feet long, and then only cutting the front half of the cuts before flipping the tile to re-square and cut the 2nd half was my "fix" but it was a PITA.
still beat tossing half of my material from miscuts as it gradually got worse&worse.

Yep. Just keep it in smaller sections so that you don't end up with trash.

There's an adjustment you can do to make the feed distance more accurate over longer distances. I've attached that part of the user's manual. It's sort of hard to follow but it should get you to where you want to be. It's also backwards in my opinion. The first page tells you how to calculate the adjustment. The next pages tell you how to do the actual adjustment.

In addition to what the others have mentioned, I assume you are reading all four cut marks, not just two or three?

Yeah, we try to keep long and large cuts under 9'. Worse if you have a run of decals that have a small inset border, then we use no more than 2-3 foot at a time.

i ended up getting a summa cutter, the mimaki is just not accurate, barely reads all 4 marks and even so is not enough marks to keep job line up. maybe my machine was old but i had it in 2 different jobs and both had the same issues. summa is so good and accurate.
