Mutoh XpertJet printing grays with a green tint

Flexi 22 and Muto XpertJet 1641SR.

Is there any way to print gray tones without them looking as if they have a greenish tint?
Black and really dark grays seem to be ok. It is really noticeable when at about 80% black and lighter.
All other colors print great!

I previously had the Mutoh 1624x along with the bundled Mutoh edition and did’t have this problem.

I am using genuine Mutoh MS41 inks.

Here is what I have tried so far:

1. I have switched to several different profiles/setups.

2. Used different media/laminate (cast and calendared).

3. Tried different colors - for example, I was using Pantone cool grays, and now switched to different percentages of pure black.

4. I converted designs with grays to bitmap and then switched the bitmap mode to grayscale.

None of these really made much of a difference.

I’m not sure if I have the ability to make a custom profile, but would definitely try if it would not screw up other colors.

I have a bunch of supplies with the colors matched and saved and I would rather not have to try to rematch them all.
I would give it a shot if absolutely necessary.

Any advice would be appreciated.

a canned profile compensates for variations in inks, substrates, various printers TYPICAL PERFORMANCE. HOWEVER it has no ability to compensate for the unique characteristics of YOUR particular machine.
get an Xrite I1 pro and run through the compensation tests (print a test chart & then scan it)

it may be that you simply want to follow some of the threads & subsititute a color (grey) with eye dropper and whatever tool
if you need (want) a proper grey where you can print a gradient (a grey stairstep) there is no getting around building your own profiles and scanning when you introduce a new substrate

if you are talking about 1 or 2 prints, this may be more trouble than it is worth. message me

Everyone I know that has bought this printer has said that the profiles that come from Mutoh are crap. You will have to create your profiles for this printer.
Also, did you attempt to create a CMYK black in Flexi, convert it to a spot color, then lessen the percentages to get your spectrum of grays?

Hi with only one colour failling, sounds just like a bad bidirectional adjustment. Mutoh profiles in this machine are bad (just because are too much ink conservative) but no so bad (tones are ok). What is really really crap in this printer (i have it but with ms51 inks) is the auto calibrations. Is extremely important you make the media calibration FOR EACH MEDIA and MANUALLY. Dont do autoadjustment specially on PF and bidir calibration, since it does them very very bad. Try this, enable unidirectional mode and try, if it prints good, is just that you have to make all calibrations... For each media

Btw, you are going to loose a lot of colours in that machine if u dont make your colour profiles. 1624 had very decent mutoh profiles but this one really lacks of colours punch (the rest is not bad)... The machine can do much more with proper profiles. At least with ms51 inks
