use the acetone with great care.
i use it all the time, but, it is like SALT when you are cooking.
you can always ADD A LITTLE MORE, but it is very hard to undo USING TOO MUCH

With the size of my printhead stash, easier to just move on and grab another if one is being particularly difficult.

Roland XR, I'll take pics of the resent nozzle checks tomorrow. There was a black that actually came back. Now we're down to a cyan And magenta failing on The Left head. Boss has been soaking and cleaning the heck out of them. They've been slowly fading for a while, but I had certain customers and repeat projects dedicated to the xr for consistent reorders.
We're at a crossroads, and for now I've moved All production I'd use on the Roland to the Epson.
Secretly I'd love to replace it with a second Epson . Don't tell XR that... Only love until it's gone.

Epson printers are a big pain to service because they lock out for the stupidest reasons and need special service programs to reset. But, if you have good techs kicking around, not too bad. Also, the L1440/DX7 is a very expensive head for what you get by modern standards.

Usually on dual head printers, you can disable 1, but I mostly deal with Mimaki stuff. Lots of Roland/Mimaki/Mutoh printers had versions where the base model was single head and their high end was a dual head version. Same parts for the most part, just parameters setup.

Sorry, I babbled too much. Issue is with our ol Roland XR. I'm not a printer tech at all, just the PM and operator. My boss, the owner, has the engineer brain, and can fix a lot of things. I push buttons, taking things apart is his thing. He can work on the Roland, the Epson we call in techs (had a wild ride with that, long story for a different thread).

Not too much, cleaned a few more Oce Arizona (Toshiba Tec) heads mostly. Need to save a few nickels up to get some other cleaning solvents.

take a few minutes & request the "epa sheet" from the ink manufacturer.
they have to declare the "active ingredients" (the solvents)
this gives you a good idea what needs to be added to your basic cleaning solution

acetone, MEK, whatever

Been rebuilding a UJF-6042 MKIIe that sat for 4 years this last month and have had great luck with cleaning the heads. Head 1 was toast (primer, so fully catalyzed/blocked channel 1) but got full flow on channel 2 for whatever reason that might be useful. Replaced head 1 and cleaned the other 3 heads with 4UV and got 99% nozzle recovery. Channel 7/8 on head 4 was about 80% blocked on both channels and they also recovered well. Having some flow is absolutely critical to making flushing work. Overnight soak also helped a lot before running a full flush cycle. Kept pressure under 4PSI (27.4 kpa) and just the nozzle plate submerged. Machine has basically paid for itself already. Less luck with Gen5 heads, but those are finnicky in the first place.

One of these days I just need to find someone who can do the business side of things. Being broke all the time sucks and I tend to avoid bugging the pros unless I have the budget to buy stuff from them as well.

Heating is a bad idea with some of those solvents, also pressure control is very important.
