printing on a wall graphic vinyl question

Do I take it that lamination really is not necessary when using an Avery wall graphic vinyl?

I've never laminate wall graphics except when the customer ask for it. I just say to the customer that the best care they can do is not touch it.

We do not laminate the wall graphics as well. The 2611 is pretty good stuff, been using it for a few years now.

Thanks, But I have no choice as to run a matte laminate on them. Some of the colours were very light greens and blues and just a little streaky. Matte lam will sort of blend them together.

I would check the material specs......a laminate may encourage the edges to pull back.

I've heard this as well. I don't think you're supposed to use laminate on 2611. We never laminate it. Compared to other vinyls, it's surprisingly difficult to scratch or damage the print (eco-sol ink).

We print a lot of this for an interstate sign company and it goes into bank branches all over the state.
We use Avery DOL2100 matte lam.

Just from my experience if you laminate something like avery 2611 it will tend to want to curl and the material is thick enough and durable enough that it is no big deal not to laminate. If you are needing something with a certain finish or the customer asks for a laminate especially if it is on a finished drywall wall i would think about using a non wall film such as 3m IJ35 its fairly cheap prints well and if it is intended to be up for awhile IJ35 will sure stick! I'm taking my chances with a small job we are doing. used a matte lam as some of the print is a little light and streaky looking. The matte hides it all and looks good. if they complain, we fix

I've laminated 2611 with 210 matte lam before. I used it on a large project in a rehab workout room. Stayed up for years with no problems. It did have a 1/4in white border. As with any wall film, longevity depends on the walls texture and the paint type used. John

I did my first wall mural two days ago. I have a picture. It was 8 feet wide by 10 tall with an angles top edge. I used Oracal 3651 with matte laminate from Signs365.com and it turned out perfect. This is in a Restaurant so I washed the whole thing down with alcohol when completed to demonstrate the durability. This is going to be edge lit with LED's with a 3" inside trim panel.

For wall murals or anything full coverage I use phototex. You can't beat it and it seems to stick to everything. It was much easier to install then any vinyl I've tried. John

Have you ever worked with 3651 before? The edges are going to shrink back and look as bad as that photo in about 6 months.

This is what we have found out as well, those edge do not like to stay down on the 3651
