Raising heads on a JV3

I know that there is a "thick" and "thin" setting on my JV3, but I had to take a bunch of cover parts off because I was having issues, and just wanted to be able to keep a eye on my lines going into the damper and print heads. I tried putting all the parts back on once, but didn't ever have any adjustment anymore, so I'm assuming I put something back together wrong.

Now, I'm just wanting to set it for thick material, and leave it alone. Is there anyway to do that with what I have here? I sometimes am getting head strikes on static cling material, and on wider banner material, and I never had that before. If someone can point it out to me, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks!

It looks as though you left the lever off that you grab to raise and lower from the low and high positions. It usually is sticking out right in the middle between the ink lines and ribbon cables.

Looks like your using the "tall" style dampers and the lever will not fit using these.

So loses your 2 big black screws with a coin, Slide your head up manually with your fingers from as near to the rail as you can get and tighten it up. It will only raise about a mm or so. If you look at the mounting plate you can see it move via the reliefs for the screws on the head mounting plate.

Someone else said that I had some kind of aftermarket parts for dampers. I don't get that because it came straight from Advantage and they set it up. I did notice that I was never able to move it much before...so that would make sense.

You mean the black screws next to the long plastic rods on each side that go back to the back of the damper area?

you can use the lever with the tall dampers but i don't. i hate that lever in the way so i tossed it a long time ago. if you need to raise and lower the heads your hand can do with the lever does when the carriage bolts are loosened. i also have a bunch of photo of when i slightly modified my head carriage so that now when i need to run very thick or maybe i'm printing on some really warped veneer i raise them to 2.38mm.

I did come across your posts, but I wasn't sure I wanted to get that elaborate with it when I just needed a TAD more to not have head strikes on this stuff. It could be a matter of cranking up the heat or lowering it too I guess to get it to lay right.

in the end i took off the wiper shems and just have my capping station at a slightly higher than usual point (also higher on the right then the front, works better that way).
so all i have is a temporary head raise. if the printer is then parked between prints for an extended amount of time i just drop the head on the caps. so basically i have low (never use) regular high (with the bolts stopping the carriages progress upward, and very high bolts out and only the screws holding the carriage on (for that you have to sand down the domed other bolts in the way). it says on the pic 1.2mm but it might be closer to 2.2mm don't remember what final point i was measuring from that day.
