Ribbon printing - thermal transfer?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this. My company purchased a couple of these printers (http://www.howardimprinting.com/inde...products_id=18 ) and for the most part they are fine but for some design, the quality is not that great.
What is the industrial way to print on ribbons? What kind of machines are needed? I tried looking online without any success so far.

Thanks for the reply JB. Do you know of any machine manufacturer or distributor in the USA? All am finding are Chinese machines without any support.
