We bid on a job a few weeks back. Like a nice Juicy one..for a federal project. It seems like they were getting to the point to give us the job.. then before approval they ask.... Are you a women owned business... i said.. no.. why?

Oh.. sorry we cannot allow you to win this bid. I asked why.. and they said that this certain project coordinator decided they wanted to give the women owned business an opportunity. I was so raged..

now don't get me wrong. i love women, and respect their business.. but why discriminate? Try going to a women owned business and refuse to do business with them because they're not owned by a man... They would get blasted... by any women. apparently there's a 20/1 ration in man vs women owned businesses.. So what..? Who's stopping them?

again.. not saying anything against women.. just the company that wont hire because of it.

the owner of this shop set up another business (Storm Relief) with his wife as the sole owner so they could get preference in all the government bids.

What is amazing is that you are surprised.

I've never understood it either. I get it's purpose (woman-owned and/or minority owned) but I disagree with blatantly awarding someone a contract on that basis alone. Seems like a massive abuse of public money to me. If the WOB/MOB is qualified for it and they won the bid fair and square that's fine, but it doesn't seem right to take a bid away from a company who is more qualified, can offer a better product or do the job for a better price.

But that's how the gov't rolls. You gotta' play the game if you want to work for the government. We became a certified woman-owned business a few years ago and there is easy money to be made if you know how to go after it. I don't like "stooping to that level" but frankly I don't care, I want a piece of that pie and jumping through those hoops and playing the game is the only way you'll get it...

So did I. Helps tremendously for SBA loans and if I was willing to move the shop about three miles across town it would help with grants too.

On a side note I was once offered a job a the in-house designer for a state agency. The position was created with me in mind. The state has a hiring system where you get points based on experience, education, and ability to do the job. I graded 98 out of 100. They couldn't hire me because there are bonus points given to minorities, single mothers, veterans, handicapped and people from poverty stricken areas. There were people in housekeeping who had never turned on a computer and who had no experience who outscored me because of the bonus point system. They ended up just eliminating the position.

Women or minority, DOMINATE government jobs. I think it's 100% wrong, but it's how it works right now and some people are smart enough to setup their business in a way to control an area's market simply because...of all the government jobs that come in.

well i find it surprising that is not more of an issue.... that is public spent money going to people that are not the best person for the job... in most other countries around the world government departments would get lynched for going with favoritism over best professional contractor.

The government can go **** themselves with the ******** politically correct environment they are trying to enforce and have created. I don't care if you are white, black, hispanic, oriental, woman, man, transvestite, disabled, or just plain retarded. If you are the most qualified for the job and have the best (not lowest price) bid then you should get the job. All businesses should get the same tax breaks and opportunities. F*** socialism. Let the strongest survive and the others can work for the survivors.

If you are the most qualified fireperson or policeperson then I want you hauling my *** out of a burning building...not some half wit 110lb weakling that passed qualifications because they had an easier entrance exam due to being a "minority".

Sorry but this topic bites my *** and pisses me off. Time to take back America.

There are alot of perks when a business is owned by a woman. I don't see where the EO is with the Gov. it's all a scam if you ask me.
