Hi everyone, just wanted to share. So we've been asked if we can decal a truck that had been rhino lined (sprayed with bedliner material) at first I said no, then told the customer I'd be willing to try.
You can't wipe the surface clean, it just shreads paper and snags cloth fibers, so I just sprayed some Isopropyl and used a stiff brush, brushing until it evaporated. Then I measured and tape hinged my decal with duct tape and squeegied as hard as I could. Before removing the transfer paper I heated the decal with my torch, (browned it like a marshmallow, by accident, a few times lol) and pressed into it firm with my foam rivet tool. You roll the mask away carefully, hold down whatever wants to pullaway. And then I post heated the whole thing again and smashed again with the rivet tool

So far so good. Its been about 3 months on our first attempt. We just installed another one yesterday. I told the client still no warranty....

Im using Arlon 2100 #07 Silver Metallic.
What are your thoughts. It isn't everyday but it is possible.
Anyone ever try this or have a better way? Im always open for new techniques.

FYI, I blocked out the city for my own protection, I make signs, not bail lol. Keep Signin'

Never go against the family
Like a lot of paints today, I would have thought that would repel anything because, well... It's a protective coating. Impressive, and that silver looks pretty sweet.

Never tried anything over bed liner. I've used the 3M8624 print vinyl WhiteHaus mentioned in the past on some pretty heavily textured brick & stone. Now I'm curious to see if that would stick to bed liner for printed graphics. Could start a whole new trend for the off road community and racers that just bedliner the hell out of everything.

You made a modest attempt at keeping your city hidden ... But be aware anyone can reverse image search! So if you really care, people can still find out, so may want to crop it some more.

See what I did there? :roflmao:

Looks good. It'll hopefully last! I know 3m 8624 is something dumb like a few months service life... But we've had some up for years and it worked. I think like you, the companies error on the side of caution for this type of install ... Always still good to get them to agree to no warranty incase something happens.

[Edit] my clever pun was wasted. You also have your city in your profile.

We've lettered quite a few swat vehicles over the years and where the textured finish is, we always hand painted those areas. Usually needed a double coat as that stuff just drinks the paint. Seriously, I'd never attempt to put vinyl on it, let alone those wispy little lines shown above.

Let us know in a year if it's still holding up. Then again, where you're located, you only have hot..... no changing temperatures from season to season. Lows in the 30's is not very cold.
