Units of Measurement

I was wondering what units of measurement some of you have gotten from clients before, I just got an email from a customer for some engraved tags that "need to match" the previous ones (which we didn't make), I asked for a size and he emailed me a photo of an existing tag next to his lighter, so his new tags are going to be 1 lighter wide x 1.25 lighters tall. This is a guy who works in the trades, i assume he owns a tape measure...

anyone else get stuff like this?

LMAO! Hilarious! Have to confirm if it's a mini-Bic or regular
This reminds me of a picture of a 3d print on one of the fancy mimaki's with color.

Most folks initial thought was 'why print a super large airpods case?'

YES but he's not a fanatic about it

My favorite is when someone asks you to shear cut some aluminum 8.581x6.269
I find that is usually a metric conversion somewhere along the line, sometimes the spec is designed in metric, converted to imperial, back to metric, then back to imperial before it gets to you, each time it's rounded up or down a bit, it's like a game of telephone from when we were kids

Haven't seen any reservations 'round these here parts in a century or two.

My neighbor buys cigarettes and buys 2 packs at a time..... and he smokes quite a bit. His cost him $11. a pack. He won't buy that way. When I smoked, I could get a carton for $8.00 a carton, By the pack they were a little over 90¢ a pack.
Gosh, how things have changed.

Humble PM

Mostly tolerates architects
C - I want them A0
M - cool, so 841x1189
C - is that centimetres or inches?

I know the space they want to install in, the walls are 3 metres, 120" high.

Mucking fuppets

Metric is leaps and bounds better than imperial, however I was taught imperial and it's what I use as well.
I do wish we used the A standard for paper/print sizes here, everything is the same aspect ratio, makes scaling artwork a breeze! no more clients sending you a 8.5"x11" flyer and wanting you to print it at 24"x36" for their A-Frame sign

Who can afford a carton of smokes these days ??
This is the truth. $100 cartons. Makes me want to quit smoking, then someone tips a truck over and I'm back to two packs a day.
It's just buying in bulk, and cheaper per pack....
Only marginally, but for about a year mine were discounted extra when buying 2 packs, so 5 transactions at 2 packs was cheaper than 1 carton.
Stupid taxes, let me kill myself how I deem fit, if anything it'll save on ss benefits and long term health coverage, if either of those things exists in the future.

This is nominally more annoying that metric..................you're fired!

My guys asked me about volume ounce vs weighted ounce, and I told them it's all density in that scenario. Then he pointed out his mixing formulas allow either grams or ratios, so my only answer was paint must be the same desnity. Then I got to blow their mind with metric's gram/cubic centimeter/milliliter superiority.
I'm curious, do metric kids get thrown dumbass conversion problems in their physics classes, or is it just stupid simple plug in equations. I swear half of a test was converting units...

Are you serious?
in 2012(?) a guy named joe ruda went to jail for 18 months or so for selling INDIAN RESERVATION CIGARETTES off the reservation. I met him, he had the same model jaguar I had.

he lost his license as a liquor distributor but only had his tobacco reseller license suspended for a couple years.

there are plenty of reervations around here…
