US Tariffs, Sigh!

Stacey K

I like making signs
You all take this political stuff to serious. There is nothing you can do about it but some of you know that, so you try to show off with your grade 13 intelligence on world trade.
It's summer up here now so that means it's our window of sunlight up here! I'll be outside every night and busy every weekend so I'll catch back up with politics in Fall LOL

Just buy American brand Colorado ink and you'll be fine. :roflmao:

He threatened apple with iPhones having a 25% tarrif if they're not made in USA.... Isn't singling out a company illegal?

But even if not... That would make iPhones cost over $2000, and take a year and billions of dollars for them to move production over.... Crazy.

Not to mention that'd be an unfair disadvantage to them... What about Samsung, a Korean company? If iPhones have to be made in America and incur a much larger production cost.... It's just going to make people gravitate towards other brands. I hate iPhone, and will never buy one... But competition is good, it fosters innovation.

I remember when this all happened people saying the countries would pay, that it's not a tax on the American people.... Now that the tarrifs are in and people are starting to see all the price increases, hopefully they can see it for what it is now.

Why doesn't trump make the Netherlands (where Colorado ink is made) pay the ink tariff ? Why is he making me pay it?

Wasn't China / India supposed to pay the apple tariffs :roflmao:

And Mexico was going to pay for the wall, the war was going to end on day one, egg prices were going to go down immediately. Etc, etc. And there’s still people who are drinking the kool aid.
So, who's gonna pay for that fabulous dome? :roflmao:
Maybe he can sell that fancy luxury jet from qtatar to pay for it. Or at best a down payment.

Maybe with all the money the US and Canada are raking in with tariffs and surtaxes on their importers maybe they can go halfsies on my family's French chateau which I'd be happy to sell to them. It's a bit of a fixer-upper but with some elbow grease it would make a great Airbnb for Don, Mark and their fanboys. Possibly they can give Davos a run as host of the next WEF rave.

How'd mexico pay for the wall? Tarrifs?
yes. approx. $133billion annually.
i'm sorry this is so hard for you.

by comparison, from 2016-2020 we were only raking-in ~$4billion annually from them via tariffs, and didn't change much the four years after that.
...in total, already more than the cost of the wall.
and now, its approx. $133billion. annually until Trump says so.

You do know that USA citizens pay tariffs right? When USA "tariffs another country" the USA importer gets the bill which is then passed on to the consumer. Tariffs are taxes on USA citizens

It is amazon how many people fall for the lie of "the other country pays the tariff"

Trump just made all his supporters cheer for higher taxes and they are too dumb to realize they are the ones paying the tax

...and slave labor in other countries keeps those products at market prices even after tariffs, allowing local producers to compete & create local jobs.
thanks for playing.

you know what else is considered a tax on USA citizens? illegal immigration
...to the tune of $160billion a year, equating to $1200 per taxpayer per year.
your TDS must be a hit around the water cooler.

Illegals pay taxes, directly and indirectly and more than pull their weight

Sales tax, property tax, lots of other taxes - illegals pay

Income tax - illegals pay indirectly via their boss who is not able to deduct the expense, oftentimes with the boss paying a tax a higher rate. Or in many cases they'll use someone else SSN and that SSN holder pays the taxes.

Only way to maybe not pay tax in the USA is to be in prison, other than that, no matter what you are paying taxes

not even close.
they pay approx. $30billion in taxes.

far from "pulling their weight", its too bad you can't bring any receipts whatsoever to your claims.
but its ok, daddy's here:
"Estimates on taxpayer money spent on illegal immigrants vary widely depending on the source and methodology, and no universally agreed-upon figure exists due to the complexity of tracking costs and contributions. A 2023 report from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates a net annual cost of $150.7 billion, factoring in $182 billion in services (e.g., education, healthcare, welfare) minus $31 billion in taxes paid by undocumented immigrants. This breaks down to roughly $8,776 per illegal immigrant or $1,156 per U.S. taxpayer annually.
However, other sources challenge these numbers. The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) estimates undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in taxes in 2022, suggesting a higher tax contribution than FAIR’s estimate, which could lower the net cost. The American Immigration Council reports $89.8 billion in taxes paid by undocumented immigrant households in 2023, including $55.8 billion in federal taxes and $33.9 billion in state and local taxes.
On specific costs, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates Medicaid spending on emergency services for illegal immigrants at $16.2 billion annually under the Biden administration, a 124% increase from the Trump era. State-level data varies: California reportedly spent $22 billion in 2022, Texas around $9 billion, and New York City $4.98 billion on housing, services, and other costs.
Older estimates, like a 2013 Heritage Foundation report, suggest a net cost of $14,387 per undocumented immigrant household, but this figure is outdated and doesn’t reflect current policies. A 2018 NBC News fact-check called claims of $200 billion or more “frankly absurd,” citing lower estimates like $54 billion annually from conservative sources.
Key variables complicating these estimates include:
  • Costs for education (largest expense, as public schools serve all children regardless of status).
  • Healthcare, especially emergency Medicaid and uncompensated care.
  • Welfare programs, often accessed by U.S.-born children of immigrants.
  • Tax contributions via sales, property, and income taxes, often underreported due to informal economies."

Government should cut spending and cut taxes, Smaller government and less taxes. Can we agree on this?
