US Tariffs, Sigh!

Okay, according to Google: (sorry, copy and paste... you could have done this too...):
"In the USA, average prices, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), are trending upward, but at a slower pace than in the recent past. While the overall inflation rate is down significantly from its recent highs, it's still above historical averages, and many consumers are still experiencing the effects of higher prices."
I actually did. That's why I told you to do it. You cant magically lower prices after the number biden did on the economy..

did you miss the part that im crunchy? i tend to not eat mcdonalds. however, I did purchase it for my grandkids about a year ago. walked in and the chick said, "mcdonalds aint cheap no more". so mcdonalds price increases went up under biden.

Nothing you showed supported that inflation is currently non-existent, nor that prices are not going up... you had even stated that your groceries are now costing less... (you even say they are "way down")

Inflation may be at a relative low, but it is still well above historic averages, and there is absolutely inflation in the USA economy at the moment...

I think it was a year ago now when I first noticed the price increase in Washington. Went to USA.... Didn't buy much because the prices looked absymal, got 1 paper bag worth and it was over $120 usd  before it would have been. $30-50 depending what I bought. Went back again a few months ago.... Just got an electric truck and wanted to do a road trip. Ended up not buying anything aside from a case or two of soda we can't get.

Inflation has hit Canada too. But I really feel like Canada's was a bit higher than normal, and to me it felt like prices went up in USA by a good 40% on most items.... Part of it due to our dollar being weak compared to usd, but a bigger part was everything just cost more.

Again... That's only WA, I know they have a high min wage and a few other things which may have inflation hit higher, but it looks like all online prices are high too.

I know there's not many gamers on here... But I had to buy my kid a switch 2. It costs $345 usd in Japan.... Or $450 usd in America... Nintendo specifically said that was due to tarrifs. Canada got hit too because they didn't want Americans buying all their switched from Canada.... But that's a 25% increase due to tarrifs. Games are 20% more as well

yes.... MY point is that it WENT UP --- and IS GOING UP... YOU claimed it is going down... prices have not dropped. You claimed there is not any inflation -- things cost more and my money is worth less -- that is inflation in my book.

I will say that if you truly feel prices for groceries have gone down in your area, then it is my opinion that you are mistaken... Please send any set of receipts for groceries with identical items costing lower now as compared to 6 months or more ago... (you may be correct, but I cannot find any evidence of prices dropping across whole categories of items such as "groceries" -- if you want to make a point that prices have been going down, scan a few receipts and show a modicum of proof....)

BUT TO BE FAIR... you, Geneva Olson, are the one bringing up Biden.... I just called you out for saying there is no inflation now and that your groceries cost is "WAY DOWN".....

no presidency is/was perfect... the gas-lighting just adds to the division.
so if I talk about Biden that's gas lighting? but calling me a liar isn't gas lighting?

got it.

AR, my foods gone up, also one that I've noticed increase substantially is light beer. It's always been fairly comparable to soda, which has exploded recently. Something like $6-8 for a 12 pack. Who can afford to drink that junk these days?
Most IPA's have stayed around $10-12 for a sixer.
Gas is at $3 unless I'm buying corn flavored, light is free for 14 hrs right now, what's all this about gaslight?

Be prepared to start paying much more for your sign goods if he follows through with the 30% on the EU and Mexico. Tons of graphic 'ingredients' are made over there...adhesives, release liners, ink, polyester films, Arizona and Colorado printers.

This is a good look at the inflation report today and the breakdown of what is costing people more in their normal/real lives: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/15/inflation-breakdown-june-2025.html

The number of price increases which keep coming at us reminds me of the inflation we went through post covid. It is so difficult to change thousands of sku's pricing.

you calling me a liar is what gaslighting is.
Well, the verb "to lie" with respect to communication has a component of motive or purpose.... one can convey inaccurate information from an inadvertent error. Gas-lighting refers more to how we tend to remember things in a more favorable light than the reality was -- so no, just because I point out that you are gas-lighting around the price or your groceries, I am not necessarily implying that you are lying. Truth be told, I think you truly do believe that your groceries cost less now - but that really does not mean that they really do cost less. (and the independent data I look at also confirms that prices are going up in your area.... )

No, Geneva, I did not call you a liar... I do, however, believe you have inaccurate data, or more accurately are 'gas-lighting' yourself....

I plan my menu around the sales. Here's our sales flyer for the week - they have to be pretty similar all over?
Piggly Wiggly is a grocery chain in the Midwest, my brother-in-law creates the ads and sets the prices for one of the local chains (not this one). I'll ask him about the prices to settle this debate.

I think inflation has been going out of control since covid. All government's spent a shitload of money to combat it ... Suppliers saw people were willing to pay more, and pricing never went down - then prices continued to rise at a steady pace.

i think the tarrifs are playing a roll in some pricing, but I don't think it's played that huge of a roll yet.

Kraft mac and cheese at 5 for $5? Jeeezus!
Geneva is likely onto something with fresh foods, these all look fairly priced. I've read recent reports here about farmers struggling to pay back loans due to the lack of migrant work and low crop prices.
