First, you could install a couple Serial ports in the computer.
Second, Gerber has a Serial to USB cable that they sell. If you go this route, you will need to keep the old cable connected to the HS15+ and then use the Gerber cable between the old cable and the USB port in the computer.
I have a Dell running 32 bit Vista and tried a Roswill dural serial port PCI RC-301. I tried both of my two available slots and both times I get hardware conflicts. The computer will not even boot with the card in.
I hear that the card is better than the adapter cable in slowing down the baud rate to avoid flooding the plotter.
I had no problems installing the USB adapter except for the directions as they were as clear as mud. finally just tossed the directions and installed it
