Need Help VG2 Or. Print head issues

New Member
I've owned two vg2's for about 4 years now and have never had any major issues. However I can't seem to diagnose the problem I am having here. My orange print head just stopped printing after being unused for about 10 days. I've tried every cleaning mode available to no avail. Cap tops were replaced about 6 weeks ago. There is just such irregularity in the test prints post cleaning that I am not sure if it's a print head issue or nozzle issue. I was going to try service mode to do a damper fill but I wanted to get some insight before I go forward. Any information is greatly appreciated. Wish I found this forum years ago. Thanks in advance

It is possibly not aligning properly on the captop as it is only effecting the right side of the head. Also leaving it unused for 10 days could have caused the head to partially dry out if it isnt seating properly.
Check the captop algnment Try an overnight head soak and a couple of powerful cleans and see if that helps. Did you replace them with original Roland ones or cheaper copies as the cheap Chinese ones aren't made that well.

Try the Fill Damper, you do not need service mode.

Turn the front power off.

While pressing and holding the PAUSE and ENTER buttons, press on the Power Switch.

Release all buttons, you should then be in FILL DAMPER mode.
Press enter.
SG users can just press enter to move on.
VG users can just select the A or B bank. Put cursor under the letter you do not want and press up or down arrow to toggle off. Only the letter showing on the screen will perform the Fill Damper.

CHANGE TO NEW CARTRIDGE, you can just press enter. ***However, if any ink bag is very low the cycle may not complete. So, you can put a new bag in and use the one you took out later.

EMPTY DRAIN BOTTLE, you can press enter if the bottle is no more than half full, otherwise empty it.

Turn off front power switch and start normally.

This would be the first time I had this issue as I switch the cap tops out every 6 months with no problems. I do believe it to be a dried up head so I started a head soak last night and will attempt a test print later tonight.

Thank you for the procedure! If I am not able to get a good test print after the head soak finishes tonight, I will attempt a damper fill.

Thank you for the advice!

So no luck with the head soak. I took the cover off to see if the damper was full to avoid running a fill damper. Then went ahead and ran a powerful cleaning on only the B heads. What I did notice is that the damper on the left side was doing a lot of action action however the right side which is the affected orange, had little to no movement. Can anyone help me determine if I should run the fill damper anyway? Since the damper is full, could it be the filler sensor/damper that's causing it?

Here's a link to a video showing the dampers during the powerful cleaning: https://files.catbox.moe/4cn0zf.mp4

Thanks

Just try the Fill Damper on the B only heads. You most likely will need a head for the orange.

How did you fix this problem? Mine is doing the same thing. Why do they recommend replacing head and not blaming the damper?

Hi, I tried running the damper fill on the B and I got an "Service Call 0300 [00C3]" error when it was almost done and used a lot of ink. after rebooting, the error was gone, but the test print looked the same.
before it got this bad, several cleanings fixed it.
Do you think it could be just the dampers?
Thank you

Possible. Or the head. What brand of ink are you using? Is it expired? How old is the printer (shot count)

I am using fresh genuine Roland inks. the heads have used around 5 sets of inks, and the rest if the test pattern is 100%

Could I get the part number for the damper that I need? I have a dual CMYK configuration

you have to be in service mode.
Our part # for a genuine VG Roland damper is 1152889 ASSY,DAMPER DOUBLE CIR
You can order it here:
You will have to call DOG Customer Service or email as it is not listed on our website
